I am wondering about fitting these. The tyre plate on the door frame says optimum size is 275/70 R16. The diameter goes from 807 to 852. They are 8" rims (optimum size for the bigger tyre). Has anyone fitted these? Any issues? Do they look a lot bigger than the 275/70s?

probably as many cruisers with 285's as standard tyres these days, and as long as you notify your insurance company, i dont know anyone who has been pulled up for running this size on a cruiser.
If wanting to go offroad at all, I would choose another stronger brand of tyre though, than the BFG.

well, yes, they are slightly stronger, but there are some other tyre induced issues which may need to be overcome then. ;-)

Bob.
With the 275/70R16 Std tyres does your speedo read right?? We have a 100Series T/D year 2000 with this size tyre and the speedo reads 5K/Hr more than actual speed through out the entire range. Didn't know this until we had the truck in Aus last year and went past one of those "you are doing xxx ks" displays on a bridge between Melb and Horsham. Perhaps these things are meant to have the bigger tyre from new. I went to Toyota about it and they said "the 100s has a eletronic speedo and cannot be wrong".
yea right. Since then I've been through some more speed displays as we have them here in New Zealand as
well and got the same result.
Clive.

I have run 285 bfg all terrains on both my 100series and have never had a problem. average around 80k and the speedo is out by 5% as measured on my gps. Tried a set of cooper s in the old discoverer pattern and took em off and gave them back after about 5000k. They were great in the wet but NVH was hopeless, dont know uf the later ones are any better. I wouldnt use anything but BFG now.
Cheers

Thanks for the replies.
I'll check the speed before and after with the GPS.
