Can't help you on Cape York but what I do know is that in the Australian Tropics, dogs are susceptible to Heartworm Condition. I am not sure what this is but if you take your dog in to the tropics then it is advisable to start giving your dog Heartworm Tablets and once you have started that you have to keep on giving the tablets for the test of the dogs life. Do a search on Google to get more clarification.

if your after places that allow dogs not only at cape york but anywhere in australia life be in it have a great book called "holidaying with dogs" that has all types of accommodation that allow dogs throughout australia. i got mine from a racv shop. if your not in victoria i dare say your state motoring body would also have the book.
you can also buy the book online by going to "http://www.holidayingwithdogs.com.au"
just so you know the book lists places in weipa, cooktown, cairns and mossman that are dog friendly.
as for the heartworm treatment mentioned by willem he is kind of correct. a dog can get heartworm anywhere in australia, not just the tropics. its just that it is more prevalent in some areas. you should treat your dog for heartworm throughout it life but if you havent you MUST before you give your dog any treatment have a vet check to see if it doesnt already have heartworm. if you treat a dog for heartworm and it already has it you will kill it.
safe travels

G'day Most of the Cape is dog freindly, except the nat parks as usual. Loyalty Beach allows dogs, though Seisia does not anymore. You can take your dog to the tip of Aus no probs. Musgrave, Moreten and all the R/Houses allow pets, but Do have your dog heartwormed well before you go as the previous poster advised, but the treatment doesn't continue for life, but wouldn't hurt if your'e doing a bit of travel. Heartworm is prevelent all over Aus, but more common the further north you head, so are ticks so apply a product like Advantage and check the pooch daily. We have travelled up the Cape for many years with the old dog and never had a problem apart from her not wanting to come home, she knew every turn-off before we got to it. Have your dog well trained so as not to be a nuisance and remember that they are up there on a crocs most favoured food list. Do it right and you and the hound will have the trip of your life. Email me if i can be of anymore assistance. Happy Camping
