Hi all,

would like antones thoughts or opinions re this problem.

About the 4by.

Jackaroo 2002 model, 3.0 t/d, manual, 51000km, serviced on time every time, ex vic govt. I have only had the vehicle 1 week.

Whilst driving along, everything was fine, no strange noises. the next thing I knew there was a loud knocking, an increase in engine revs (up to 1500 from idle) and clouds of white smoke out the exhaust (smelling strongly of diesel).

So far I've had the following theories put forward:
1. Dropped valve
2. Busted piston
3. Blown turbo seals.

I would like to know if blown seals would be accompanied by a knocking from the engine and a rise in engine revs?

Sorry about the long post, I'm at my wits end. I've only had the vehicle for a week and now it looks like I'm up for a new engine. Any comments, opinion etc. will be greatly appreciated.

Steve

If it still sounds OK, ie not missing badly or still knocking I reckon it may be an injector has lost the nozzle.

No unfortunately. Got towed home and waited for some time. started the jack again and exactly the same thing happened again. The knocking, the increase in revs and the clouds of white smoke.

Isn't this the known problem of inector seal going on these motors?? If so, Holden should be comming to the party over this as I'm sure they recalled these motor's for that problem??

I may be wrong, however I'm sure some of the other Jack owners will shed some light.

Thankfully the recall only extended to 2000 model jacks. From what I've read the only way to have stopped the engine would be to let it keep going until it self destructed as you cant turn of a c.i engine that has this problem. Thanks for the input tho.

Sadly the jack was purchased new on the 17th july so its almost 4 weeks out of warranty. Having a mechanic look at it today. He thinks that Holden may come to the party as he's had some success in the past. Here's hoping.

Fingers crossed I'd say 4 weeks out with fairly low k's provided it has a good service history I'd like to think Holden would cvome to the party.

Just an update.

It seems that it is the injector seals that are the problem, the sump was full of diesel. Hopefully things are not as bad as I first thought. North City Holden are 99% sure that they can fix it under warranty, which would be an added bonus. I had also sent off an email to Holden explaining the problem and asking for their take on the situation. I will keep this updated for any of you that are interested. Thanks to all who responded.

Well, good news. Recieved this reply from Holden..

Please be advised Holden is always willing to review requests for assistance outside the parameters of the New Vehicle Warranty, subject to the nature of the concern and time elapsed subsequent to the expiration of the warranty. Although we have a certain degree of flexibility outside of the warranty

Basically they will fix the problem. Thank god.
