10 Para (Qld)
Just read the Qld Transport Reg's for tare weight and i quote,"tare means (a) the mass of the vechile when unloaded (b) the mass of the fuel,
water, lubricants and tools, and of any equipment and accessories, loaded on the vechile and necessary for its normal operation"
Does this mean in regard to caravans
water in the
water tanks, gas in the bottles, spare tyres, batteries etc.
Have also spoken to the dept whao advise that there inspectors say the spare is included but the head office say's it is not, head office advise that the
water should be in the tare, does anyone have any idea what is or is not included.
confused

10 Para,
I am sure the tare wieght is empty, (no
water, no nothing) as nothing is needed for for the "normal operation" of this vehicle.
But surely your local caravan dealer should be able to answer this question without novices like me just giving their opinions (haha).
Regarding spare, if trailer and car tyres same then surely only one spare would be necesary for the combination. I know I would personally have at least 2 but as far as inspectors go which spare is for which vehicle??
Over 250 000 km travelling with caravans and I have never been pulled over by RTA inspectors, but thats not to say they can't pull me over. Bet tomorrow I get pulled over now I've said that.
Regards Trevor.

Water in tanks is not included but spare tyre is. Tare weight will be what the vehicle or trailer weighed when it was licenced, running and road worthy.

Thank your lucky stars the equipment listed in your rig profile is not all "necessary for its normal operation". You'd have no hope of passing inspection. Or is it ???? :-)

Hii.
According to RTA Rocky..
Tare is:- Weight of vehicle. With everything fitted.(Fixed/Fastened items.) Solar.Spare wheel's.
Water tanks. (empty) Gas tanks (Full)?. Batteries. Chargers etc. Ready to roll.
Everything else is counted as add on weight.up to gross Max. mass on
Wheels.
Drawbar weight is whatever allowable by car mfg...OR Difference stated on van plate. Whichever is lightest....
So they told me last week..
Macka..
