Hi all
I read with interest the post 25679
I do not know the details about this particular incident but from reading the posts submitted there are two areas of thought .
My thoughts are that in the climate that we live in "TODAY"
That few people want to take responsibilty for there actions," it's always someone or something that is to blame" !!!
For example - Wet roads cause accidents ???
How many times has the media said that ???
Who causes accidents on wet roads ???
For the past 30 years I have had a career as an Emergency Services Personnel and I have taken great pride in my job, helping the general public in there time of need.
Unfortunately a very worrying trend has started to appear in recent years !!
The general public has started to have little tolerance for the job we do especially if it impacts on there day to day activities, ie, Not moving out of the way of a emergency vehicle, Why didn't you get here sooner, Closeing roads, disrupting essential services for a short time, anything that may inconvenience the "individual" all emergency services either proffessial or volunteer try to do there job to the best of their ability
MY POINT - is that now a days society on a hole does not accept their own responsibility for there actions - its always someone elses fault
WE ALL, have to take responsibility for our actions and if that means travelling to the Far North of Australia in CROC infested waters we have to do our home work and prepare ourselves with as much information as we can, to ensure we complete our trip as safley as possible and at the same time enjoy ourselves
It's a great trait us humans have to feel sorry for those in there hour of need !!
But what about the "EMOTIONS" that the emergency services personnel have to deal with attending the call because someone took the attitude - I'm not going to take responsibility for my actions.
YES, I took on the job to help people in there hour of need but unfortunately there are a lot of people that are quick to blame someone or something for there own
carelessness as I stated before there is a trend forming where "people" are not accepting " THERE OWN RESPONSIBILITY"
Stay safe and enjoy this great " AUSSIE LAND "
Barry

Barry
I wholeheartedly agree with you about Responsibility!

My son found himself in strife at school last week in an incident involving several of his friends, a basketball and a broken window. When teaching staff investigated, his mates all scarpered, except my 15 year old who stood up and said "I broke the window". .... We have always tried to impress upon him how important it is to take responsibility and this incident showed me he is on the right track! I was so proud of him! (And I told him I was proud!) His mates were all eventually caught up with as well, as usual all claiming different reasons for the breakage, my son just kept on with the "I broke it" bit.

Hi Brian
Great to hear, congratulate your son from me
Unfortunately in my line of work I often deal with families/parents who do not take responsibility for their childrens actions.
cheers

I have just finished reading a book by Esther McKay called "Crime Scene". The book deals with her work as a Forensic Investigator with the NSW Police and the effect it had on her health (mental and physical). It was an eye opener to me.

"But what about the "EMOTIONS" that the emergency services personnel have to deal with attending the call because someone took the attitude"

We tend to take for granted all emergency personnel as they go about their grim work.

I take my hat of to you all. And your points are well made.

Best wishes.

Well said Barry, there are too many do gooders and tree huggers that seem to believe it is always someone, or something elses fault.

An idiot and his wife get into a canoe and paddle along a waterway full of esterine crocodiles. Croc hits canoe, tucker falls out, do what is natural for a croc...then the croc gets shot!

I lived in the NT for a couple of years, I would never go into any croc infected water in a bloody canoe! We had a reasonable sixed boat with an outboard...if too many crocs are around you start up an get the hell out of there. Having said that crocs have been known to have a go at tinnies as well.

On another matter we have a stretch of road near Gympie where the road surface was blamed for a couple of fatal crashes. I've driven that road and observed the driving behaviour that contributed to most of the accidents. But no, it is the Government's fault, not the driver's.

Couldn't agree more- and particularly on the road.
I've driven it many many times, night, day, wet and dry.
The road is fine, the standard of driving is bloody abysmal!
Cheers

Herewith the response to this by Don Henley and The Eagles, attributed to watching too much daytime TV.

"Get over it"

I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin’ ’don’t blame me’
They point their crooked little fingers ar everybody else
Spend all their time feelin’ sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma’s too thin; your daddy’s too fat

Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin’ and cryin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it, get over it

You say you haven’t been the same since you had your little crash
But you might feel better if I gave you some cash
The more I think about it, old billy was right
Let’s kill all the lawyers, kill ’em tonight
You don’t want to work, you want to live like a king
But the big, bad world doesn’t owe you a thing

Get over it
Get over it
If you don’t want to play, then you might as well split
Get over it, get over it

It’s like going to confession every time I hear you speak
You’re makin’ the most of your losin’ streak
Some call it sick, but I call it weak

You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin’ everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I’d like to find your inner child and kick it’s little ass

Get over it
Get over it
All this bitchin’ and moanin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it, get over it

Get over it
Get over it
It’s gotta stop sometime, so why don’t you quit
Get over it, get over it

On a similar note, I like the Proclaimers take on this...

Everybody's a victim
Seems we're going that way
Everybody's a victim
We're becoming like the USA
Everybody's a victim
Seems we're going that way
Everybody's a victim
We're becoming like the USA

I demand recompense
For sitting on the fence
Throughout my adult life
You've got to put my parents in jail
For raising me in Fife
It doesn't matter what I do
You have to say it's alright
And I need you to send somebody around
To tuck me in at night
Because...

Everybody's a victim
Seems we're going that way
Everybody's a victim
We're becoming like the USA

Well it's not my fault
That I'm positive
I just stuck a needle in my arm
And nobody told me
That sixty a day
Would do me any harm
My liver's shrivelling like a leaf
But it's not the whisky that doo's it
Call me irresponsible
And I'm really going to lose it
Because...

Everybody's a victim
Seems we're going that way
Everybody's a victim
We're becoming like the USA

Wear a ribbon for this
Hug a stranger for that
Light a candle to the dead
And soon you'll forget
That you ever had
A brain inside our head
We value everythin the same
We turn it into farce
So we don't know a crisis
'Till it kicks us up the arse
Because...

Everybody's a victim
Seems we're going that way
Everybody's a victim
We're becoming like the USA
Everybody's a victim
Seems we're going that way
Everybody's a victim
We're becoming like the USA
Everybody's a victim
Seems we're going that way
Everybody's a victim
We're becoming like the USA

Latest news - they shot the wrong croc. A necropsy showed no human remains in it's stomach!

I guess it's possible however that the croc has stashed the body somewhere before eating - heard of them doing that before.

yup, and now they are continuing the search for "OTHER CROCS THAT MAY HAVE DONE IT"..

in other words, excuse to cull a dozen or so crocs for no reason.

I haven't seen anything to say that the people involved in this incident were not prepared to take responsibility for their actions.
I do agree however that its a bit stiff for the croc.

Mating season coming up soon, The big fella sees a canoe( his perspective, possible female mate) Goes up close to see if she is interested. Next thing a whack on the head with a paddle( he sees leg and it hurt)" I'll give you a good nudge back woman" Bloke falls in , must be dinner, now I'm dead. The bloke should have been shot for being a reckless bleep and risking his wife's life aswell as his own. lot to be said about so called weekend adventurer types with a lack of brain cells and to much testosterone. Unfortunately a sad thing for his family, but should never have happened.

Leave the Croc's alone. They are only contributing to the improvement of the human gene pool. Given enough time we may outsmart them.
