Got the new Repco catalogue in the mail last night, has advertised in it a 1000w Scorpion Pure Sine Wave generator for $299. Has anyone used one of these??

Also in there are liquid circulation car fridges 12v/24v claiming they are a fridge / freezer and warmer, is this correct that they are a freezer? Seem cheap @ $379 for 35litres!

Haven't seen their Cat yet , but , in regards to the Fridge/Freezer.

Fridge/Freezer/Warmer , I doubt it.

Repco sell a 12v/240v/Gas fridge/Freezer (like a Chescold) , in that size , for that amount , so I'm assuming thats what you are looking at.

I know a few people with them and the work well , including Freezing.

One guy had to have a couple of goes at getting one to work , but, now that it is working , very happy.

Hi Flappa

Thanks for the reply

No its not the 3 way, that is in there also. Has a "New Technology" stamp over the top of the photo, says they are 12v/24v and 240v adaptor included, fridge/freezer/warmer function. I hadnt heard of it before thats why I posted

Hi there Flappa so you reckon those 3 ways are ok Was going to get one this afternoon. Any idea how they would go on 12v while travelling or would they be like the one's in caravans where they have to be nice and level to run?? For that price though I reckon they'd be good to have. Have been told that these type of fridges are quit economical to run on the gas. If this is true any idea on how many days you would get out of a 9kg gas bottle running day and night give or take a bit depending on ambient temperature.I thought this would be a cheaper way to go than buying an engel / dual batt etc. Take Care Vitara

Hey Vitara.

I'm not qualified to give you detailed answers , but I can share an opinion with you.

On 12v , like most of these fridges (chescold included), they are pretty ordinary. They dont have thermostats on 12v , so run constantly at high amps (8 amps or so from memory), enough to flatten a battery in quick time.

On 240 and gas though , they are very good.

On Gas they have to be very level to run properly , but yes VERY economical. On a 9kg bottle , they would run for weeks. Maybe someone has exact figures. My mates run for a week on a 4.5kg no probs at all.

There are apparently two ways to get the best out of these when travelling (12v)

To significantly upgrade the wiring (still bearing in mind it will run constantly) , or as a guy I know does , Uses a large Invertor to run it like 240v and thus has a thermostat. Can also then use the existing 240v cord.

The trick , which ever way , is to run it on 240v prior to leaving , fill it up completely , so everything is nice and cold or frozen , and to get it OFF 12v ASAP , and onto 240 or Gas.

As I mentioned earlier though , One of the guys that I know that has one , had to take his back at least once , and swap it for another. Repco have a good return policy though.

His 2nd one works a treat.

Given that the Chescold this size is approx $1000 , surely at this price , its worth taking a chance.

If it works straight away , chances are it will stay that way. If its NOT working first up , its unlikely to , so change it ASAP.

vitara, I've got one of the repco 3 way fridges, as do a couple of others here. They do need to be level, and like most of these you can expect 12V performance to be poor, although I must admit, I've never even used it on 12V. They are a fridge only, not a freezer. You should get about 3 weeks constant running out of 9Kg. Do an archive search on "repco fridge, heaps of reports. IMHO these sre more of a camp fridge rather than vehicle fridge.

it has to be a peltior type...no others can warm that I am aware of.

if it is a peltior it will be useless as a freezer.....they hardly have enough grunt to keep your lunch cool on a 40 degree day

Agree.

AFAIK , thats the only "warmer" ones I'm aware of , and wouldn't bother with.
