Hi guys, am after info on wheel hubs for a gu patrol. Rotating the tyres today, I notice I have a little play in left front hub. I have tensioned wheel bearings on my cruiser when needed but have not had to do it for the patrol yet. I am presuming that you remove the hub cover & you will get to the lock nuts. If anyone out there has done this job & has any advice, please feel free to enlighten me.
thanks, OM&M.

Hi there Mice
Remove the hub and you will need to remove the lock ring, 2 small bolts.
I recommend to wash and repack bearings as they don't have much grease in them from new.
The cruiser had 2 nuts and a lock washer.
The GU will have 1 nut and a lock ring which locates on a flat tab.
Pretty easy to do.
If you have done a cruiser you shouldn't have any dramas.
Cheers

Hi OM&M,
The lock nut is a disc abouy 70mm dia, 5mm thick, theaded to screw onto the shaft, with a series of holes around it to accomodate a spanner.
You will need to make or purchase a tube spanner to turn the lock nut. The spanner can made from an 80mm length of steel tube, 41-21mm ID. Weld two 5-6mm dia steel pins, spaced 52mm between centres to the circumfrence of the tube. Length of pins is about 5mm beyond the end of the tube. At the other end, I welded an old socket wrench so I could use a torque wrench.
Alternatively, if you don't have a welder, you can fix two 80mm x 6mm bolts to a bit of flat iron, spaced 52mm apart, with a nut fixed half-way between to attach a spanner. Don't like this method, as the bolts can flex. Thicker bolts, ground down at the end to fit the holes might work better.
Set the free-wheeling auto hubs to "Lock". Remove the six allen bolts on the FW hubs. A cirlip retains the hub on the splined shaft if you want to remove the hub.
