Hi,
My mate's ute has just blown up the rear diff. Does anyone know where can he get one for HZJ75 92 model in
Melbourne?
He has rang up the wrecker at Dandenong but they don't have it in stock.
Does anyone know how much for a recon diff? Is it better off getting a air locker instead?

Id wait till saturdays papers come out. Scored my rear one for $50 out of the quokka... wreckers wanted $250+ and the locker I wanted was $1000, and I am still yet to see one second hand. dunno about recond, but a newie from a trans
shop was $550.
The car is common enough- you shouldnt have too many issues finding a new diff.

Depending on what he has blown up in his rear diff....a complete lsd diff centre with ring and pinion is somewhere around $850 at the wreckers.
I have a complete good condition spare in my garage in
Wollongong if he cant find one closer...it would require a courier...0408965433
Axles do snap aswell, but it is usually the ring and pinion.
The 92 model has a 4.10 ratio, thesame in all rear 80 series diffs from 1990-1998 and hzj75 from thesame era.
Hope this helps out

Kelvin,
Your mate will have to get the diff fixed before the locker will fit and work. So he could be up for a diff and the locker, depends what is wrong with the diff.
If he is going to put a locker in I would go for a recondition diff as the extra load might shorten the life span of a second hand unit put in.
As for the cost I would think that $250 would be a fair price and have a look in the yellow pages under Motor Replacement Parts- Transmissions- Automotive.

kelvin,
Send this link to your mate. But this price may be a bit high for a recon unit.

Depending on where your mate is, I use Macnamara diffs in Moorabbin, I have no affiliation with him whatsoever apart from using them for
mine, mates and customers cars cause they're local and he's been there for years under the same name, I mention this as I had a diff(V8 Falcon) done by Dandenong Diffs who went broke?? And re-opened under a different name making my guarantee/warrantee void when I needed it when it mashed itself 3 weeks after refitting it, out $700 on a customer’s car. He may have a changeover on the shelf, or alternatively he sells changeovers with his air locker system already fitted, which in another twin locked 60 Series has out lasted
mine which is fitted with twin ARB's of which the rear has had one pinion seal and one air seal. As I said no affiliation, just one of his happy customers.
Hope this helps.
PS he may seam grumpy, but he's alright.
