A TAG-A-LONG TO PANDANUS PARK CAPE YORK 2006 TRIP
ESPECIALLY FOR OUR WAR VETERANS OF AUSTRALIA
THIS IS FOR NON-PROFIT, AND IS OPEN TO ALL WAR VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND DIRECT DECENDANCE OF WAR VETERANS OF AUSTRALIA.

Hello to you all, My name is Nicole and my father is a War Veteran, since I do extensive travelling in the Cape York Region every year, I have finally convinced my father and mother to Tag-A-Long to the Veterans Retreat, So I began thinking maybe there are other Veterans wishing to travel there as well, So why not form a
Tag-A-Long group, I am wanting to hear from any War Veteran that is interested in travelling to Pandanus Park Veterans Retreat on Kalpower Station Cape York late July/Early August 2006....
An Itinerary is in the process of being worked out and will be sent out to Veterans who wish to join the group. NOTE(You must be a War Veteran or direct decendant of a War Veteran).
This Tag-A-Long will be definitely be happening and will be Departing Newcastle Energy Australia Stadium NSW in early August so as the Veterans can be at the retreat before Long Tan Day.
I only intend to deliver the people to the Veterans Retreat ensuring that they all make it there with no hiccups or wrong turns, I will provide the most peaceful camping sites on the way, As well as fuel stops and restocking the food and water. And if interested some sight seeing on the way, If travellers wish to venture further up the Cape and require a guide I am only to happy to be a guide (FREE OF CHARGE)
All travellers must have their own insurance and a reliable 4wd, a UHF Radio or a HF Radio.
If you feel that saftey in numbers is a better way to travel and would like to join in on a friendly, fun and safe trip contact me (Nicole Merrion) on my email and i will send you my ph number for contact details.

Sounds like an excellent trip - unfortunately I won't be able to make it.

When I was in Townsville last week for work there was big talk about the Qld State Govt trying to close this place down and hand it back to the 'traditional owners' - and it's causing a lot of heartache.

I hope they don't do it - and if they try we all need to get in there and support them. They aren't doing anyone harm and it's only a small piece of Australia - considering what they (and us) did for this country, I don't think that its too much to ask.

Hi Karl,
I am a hopeful person and have hope the the people of Australia will stand behind their war heros for the right to have a small piece of the land that they so bravely fought for. I dont think the Traditional owners would mind the Veterans being there, they seem more sympathetic to the cause than the government.
My response to those who think they have the right to apose the giving of this small gesture is ...If you didnt serve our country than how can you know or understand what these people have suffered with ever since their service then deny our veterans a piece of land that will be of a great benefit to these people in healing old wounds...
It's like saying to a cancer patient ..."sorry but there is no hope for you so we cannot give you any chemo therapy your on your own"
Come on Australia are we so cold hearted ?????

Thanks for the support Karl..
Peace

Hi Nicole
Congratulations on a great idea, anything that we "ALL" can do to express our sincere thanks to our war veterans must be a great idea.
I'm sure that anyone who attends will recieve an enormous amount of pride from attending and meeting other war veterans.
I am very interested, but ,wondering if I fit your critiera !!!
I personally did not represent my country in war but my Grandfather did
My Father and I are interested in attending this worthwhile get together.
I was wondering if you could clarify - Quote - " It is open to all war veterans and their families and direct decendance of war Veterans of Australia"
Does that include all Wars or Vietnam War only ??
Once again, well done for a great idea.
Good luck
Barry

Niikki,

Read your post and responses with interest. Perhaps on this one occassion in 2006 the park could be opened up over a weekend, or a 3 or 4 day period and a Pandanus Park War Veterans Retreat "Supporters" gathering convened. A bit of moral support and publicilty for the cause. Just a thought!

Regards,
Greg

Hi Niikki,

Read your post with great interest. My wife and I have been talking about going to the Cape for some time now. As her father was a WWII veteran, and I am an ex-serviceman, (not a war veteran though), she reckons that this is our chance to do it. Cick on my rig/profile for my email details.

"I think that the more veterans that visit Pandanus Park the more the government has to listen"

Thats nice in theory, but no matter how loud you scream, holler, yell, stamp your feet, the pi$$ weak pollys wont do squat against our wonderful hard working 'traditional owners'....

Good luck.

PS. Will Les Hiddens be there?

Hi Truckster,
Just maybe getting the veterans and the supporters all together for the cause, things might change.... If we can catch the attention of the Australian public and open their eyes to the sensitive needs of these people and it's not only for past serviceman but for our future serviceman as well than maybe we can get a lot more support.
( Whos gunna want to serve a country in war when that country doe's not support their veterans)

Peace from an Optimistic

Get the word to aussie public.

Hasnt there already been a TV show on this? The only way to get the word out there, is by Press, TV/Radio/Printed.

Maybe you should get to some of them, and get them onside, although they are also chit scared of speaking out against our wonderful hard working 'traditional owners' who would do so much more with that blot of land out of their billions of acres.

Hi All,
WOW.... Well I'm surprised at the response's I got from my post....
I was only intending to take my father and any war veteran and their family who wished to tag a long to the retreat...
Truckster - you sound so negative and whats with the "traditional owners"....
The traditional owners to me have more pride in our veterans than the government.... BUT we all have our own thoughts and beliefs on this cause...
The thing is that we have a country full of war veterans and their families...
Imagine if they all conveened together, the people protesting against this cause would BE OUT numbered ...
Here's a thought too... Why is this cause being protested against... IT"S not war these veterans are asking for it is only a small piece of land...

I WILL BE GOING UP THE CAPE TO PANDANUS PARK WITH MY FATHER REGARDLESS>>>
ANY VETERAN WISHING TO JOIN US IS WELCOME ...
IF YOU HAVE NOT SERVED PLEASE CONTACT PANDANUS PARK ON ENTRY REQUIREMENTS TO THE VETERANS RETREAT....

Peace
Niikki
