Hi,

I've got a PL 60 plasmatronics solar regulator. I've read that with the PL20 units you can simply attach a cheap 240 volt battery charger to the PL20 and get a good 3 stage charger.

First question is can I do it with the PL 60 as well??

Second question is if I can do this, what would be the cheapest option to go from 240 volt to around 20 volts (I guess) at 50amp?? Cheapest and lightest.

Thanks

looks like you may be struggling to get it as cheaply as you'd like... A high capacity batt charger can set you back just as much as the PL60.

As you mentioned, getting a cheap battery charger would work, but at the cost of time. Going for a 20V 50A charger (1000W) would certainly be no lightweight option.
Have you looked into a simple regulated power supply? GME does numerous ones (for radio gear), and you could no doubt pick one up cheap on ebay or somewhere. They come in various amp ratings, and are pretty light weight. Seeing as you will be using the PL60 to control the charge, there is no point buying a charger with features that will be a waste of money and weight.

Thanks for that I'll check into them. In the end it maynot be worth it but will check it out and decide then.
