Evening All,
I have an L/C 60 series and the shackle bushes need replacing.
What advantages do these greasable pins and bushes give you?
Do they just last longer or is is there some other reason why I should buy them.
Cheers

hi moz
i put them on my 60s and you could feel the difference with the driving.
the greasable shackles make for a smoother ride and yr bushes will last a lot longer because you can grease them where as the non greaseables u cant.

exactly what he said. I had a shackle hanger snap off because of lack of lube for the bush. One other had a hairline crack. They dry out and give you a harsher ride because the bush cant swivel around the pin. One you put the greasable shackles on just hitem with the grease gun every few months.

Greasable shackles are a great idea but Leroy, I cannot for the life of me see how the lack of them could make the hanger snap off. It would just make the bush(much softer than than the pin) wear out more and more, and get sloppy and noisy. To the extreme it would go metal on metal then maybe fail, but i dont believe anyone could be that deficient in the most basic maintenance etc? If they were then there are far more serious things on a car to worry about?

fisho they were poly eurothene bushes in for approx. 12 mths and hard as rocks and the grease was black and dry as. The pins were a little pitted at the bottom indicating that moisture was in there also at some stage. After regreasing the shackles the rear end would actually absorb bumps again.

Greasable shackles are only for poly bushes to stop them drying out and squeeking if you fit them with rubber bushes the rubber will turn to jelly.

I fitted them on my Rodeo and they made the ride a lot smoother.

Depends on what sort of driving you do. Dirt or Bitumin, they may have the benifit of a smoother ride but after awhile fine dust and grease becomes GRINDING PASTE. You maybe able to over come this with very regular grease injections to replace the dirty grease with new stuff..

I would echo what olly said, if u go greasable do it often as only doing it occasionally would be worse than never at all.
