Hi, I have a 2000 model ST Patrol Cab Chassis with coil
suspension. Has anyone been able to successfully reduce the weight of the vehicle to under 2000 kilo for registration purposes as this will save me approximately $1,000 per year

I would imagine you'd have to strip a lot of gear off it (eg: bullbar, tray, spare tyre etc) and then the real FUN would start.....cos you'd have to get the bloody thing totally re-engineered/complianced as it would be lighter than the factory specs. I would think you'd be pushing shyte uphill with a forked stick really.
Good luck

Sounds like you're from the ACT. In SA,
mine's $850 per year, and if I were able to reclassify it as a non-commercial vehicle, I'd save maybe $100 per year, so haven't bothered.
I think you have no chance. Weigh it now and I'd guess you'd be over 2400 with nothing much on it.
I looked at reclassifying the 79series, but they wanted to know its weight fully loaded - complete with full tanks and all the gear - looked to me like they were more interested in GVM.
Cheers

Hello Phil,
Seem to be getting the same answer from everyone so will have to accept that I am going to have to pay full price!

Joinery,
I thought that NSW was the tax state.
Paid for the rego on the Troopie last Friday. This vehicle is for business use and weights 2600kg.
Green slip $433.40
Registration fee $49
Motor Vehicle Tax $490
$972.40
If I took the Troopie to Weight Watchers and lost 600kg would that mean that they would have to pay me.

I don't knw exactly how much weight you would have to shed but how about these ideas:
Mag
wheels with H/T tyres
Alloy tray
Remove towbar, bullbar, sidesteps
Remove all aftermarket accessories
Tyre repair kit instead of spare?
Any light weight stuff could be borrowed for the inspection.
I don't know how viable doing this would be. I live in Qld and as far as I know we don't have this issue.

Helium would be the go. A few balloons tied on in the back, maybe in the tyres, fill the cabin up with it just before you weight it, never seen it done before but may be worth a try. Just don't light a match!
