Finally got the Turbo/pump tuned today after fitting the turbo over a month ago(vehicle hasnt been used).Boost was set at 10.5,already has a 2 1/2 exhaust.Holds a gear higher on most hills and you can actually over take things now.Still havent towed the camper trailer yet which will be the big test,as this is why we had a turbo fitted.
So far Im happy but must admit that I was expecting more grunt up hills(steep ones).

I'd be 'more' interested in fuel consuption figures.
My Father has a 60 series diesel, I'm wondering if a turbo will actually give better fuel economy.
My theory is that the accelerator pedal would spend less than 99.2% of the time on the floor :) therefore less fuel needed??
It's main use is gentle cruising, and lots of struggling up hills!
Higher gearing would be looked into as well.

good luck with yours.

It will take quite a while to work out fuel consumption as I dont use the vehicle for work everyday, only odd weekends over winter.Summer is different.

Rather than turbo the original motor, hunt around and find a 12HT factory turbo. They are direct injection and possibly the best motor Toyota ever built and were factory fit in the 60 series. Probably get one now for not much more than an after market turbo but a far superior motor.
Cheers Rob

i have fitted a safari turbo to my 3.0 litre diesel hilux ,which made a considerable difference.then i got a 2.5 in exhaust , which made it even better. then decided to get the injector pump recalibrated and adjusted on a the dyno.i didnt think it would make much difference. it cost a bit to get the pump done, but it zooms up hills like a rocket now ,im wrapped.fuel consumption is about the same as before ,or just slightly better.but she has huge pulling power and rapid acceleration .excellent on a tour now.heeeeeeeeeeeee.cant wipe the smile from my face.good luck.
