News of the TD6 being dropped has been around for a few months, it couldn't meet the emission controls if they tried. Although I would've thought a newer common rail 6 would be a good selling point for Nissan, I,ve heard it won't happen.

BUT, IF as you say the 3.0 is getting the bullet, the maybe a bigger bugger IS on the cards ?.....

News of the TD42 being dropped have been round for about 6 yrs... its no newy rumour.

As for bigger.. Cant see it. But droppin the 3.0 is a good start.

4.5ltr V8 Diesel 200kw, 800nm would be a nice start, with live axle

although its already stated it will be IFS... wait for the runout sales on the current ugly box, and buy one of the last real 4wds.

i cant imagine Nissan bowing to pressures to change to IFS for a more comfyride when no one wants it.. Leaving it as it is maybe wat saves the patrol.. What are Nissan Aust telling Japan,,, we buy about half they sell some must have some say.... Michael

I do agree with that, but then why dont we have a really powerful decent motor in the GU range?

Remember everyone expected the last update to be more than adding an intercooler. 4.8/5.7 diesels, all sorts of rumours were flowing like a Laxettes party.

V8 4.8ltr 180kw/700nm or similar gettin 13/100 if Mr Nissan is listening WITH live axle..?

Sadly if images in a maggo while back are correct, it was IFS.

I think only the defender and Patrol have alive axle now. Nissan must realise that if you want to buy a soft roader, there is already enough choice now, Landcruiser, Range Rover, Prado, Pajero, Disco the list goes on LOL...........

patrol, 105croozer, troopy, defender and wrangler.
after the next round of "upgrades" the troopy may be the only one

pretty sad

Considering they have been moving most of their 4wd's to the same basic chassis, I believe they call it the 'F-Alpha Platform', which is IFS; and considering how few Patrols they sell in the world, I'd be suprised (but very pleasantly) if they built a new platform for the next Patrol rather than just update it along with most of the other 4by's they sell around the world.

Alpha Platform in Nissan 4wd's:

Titan - US big ute (F250 size)
Armada - US big wagon, bigger than Patrol
Xterra - US smaller 4by, X-trail size but with separate chassis & low range.
Pathfinder - The new version with independant rear as well.
Frontera - US version of new Navara

The article linked above points out that a 'Platform' is not just a chassis but a whole system allowing different cars to use the same assembly line.

IMHO the best we can hope for is a Patrol with no changes to the underpinnings and a new engine. Can't see it happening though.

To that end, when my 3.0 TD dies (it's only 6mths old now, so give me a break truckster ;) I plan to stick a 6.5 chev TD or similar in it, then I've got the Patrol we should have had for a while :)

Thanks,

Aaron.
