Evening all, We are currently planning our Kimberly Trip for next year and have been advised that you cannot take trailers into the Bungle Bungles, is this information correct. We have an offroad Jayco camper but are also set-up to swag it for a couple of nights if we need to. Would anyone be able to confirm this and if it's right were would be a suitable place to leave the camper. Thanks

Hi Leith, I was there in July and there are signs saying 'no trailers'. There is a
camp in among some trees on a river bank very close to the turn off that had a lot of caravans and trailers, some other people on this
forum may be able to give you details. The road to the Bungles is narrow in parts and NOT suitable for two trailers to meet head on if the drivers were not up to being able to reverse their rigs so I guess the powers that be err on the side of caution and ban all trailers. When you go to the Bungles go early in the morning and visit Catherderal
Cavern as early as possible and travel to
Echidna by mid-day. You prob will not be looking to do a lot of walking mid afternoon in the heat.

Leith,
Dont quite know what a a Jayco camper trailer is. Have just got back from 4 weeks in the Kimberleys and they were not impressed with me taking the Trakmaster van
into the Bungles. We had 4 camper trailers , Kimberleys etc , no problems, as part of the group, but the
ranger came around and told me to leave next morning, they dont differentiat between serious off road vans and normal vans. Saw 2 Jayco fold
down units which had broken springs by the side of the road, so be warned.
The Trakmaster handled the road with no problem, but it has airbag
suspension
and quad shocks.
The
rest area just south of the Bungles turn off is excellent ,lots of people leave
their vans there and head into the Bungles for 1 or 2 days.

Hi There,
When I arrived at
the entrance to the Bungles during May this year I read the
sign and thought I was not permitted to enter with my off-road camper-trailer. I can't remember the wording of the
sign. Either 'campers' or 'caravans', I think
I ended up 'storing' the trailer some 60k's further up the road, returning with our tent instead.
I found the condition of the track to be 'good' to 'fair', with a few rough spots. Certainly not 'difficult'. The track was in the process of being maintained. We did come across a couple of road crews in working with graders and tip trucks. I saw nothing that would have prevented my bringing in the camper-trailer.
When I arrived at the
Ranger's Station /
Information Centre within the Bungles I asked the staff why campers were not permitted. They told me that the
sign was intended to stop 'caravans' from being brought in, not off-road camper-trailers.
There were two camper-trailers in the Bungles during my stay.
regards,

Hi Leith,
We have just got home from the Kimberleys, and they allow camper trailers in, but not caravans. We took our
Cape York camper trailer in and had no problems at all. It just depends upon how good your
suspension and clearance is on your Jayco.
The road in at the moment isnt too bad at all. Alot better than
Mitchell Falls or
Cape Leveque roads, but I shant go there. You can always telephone the rangers before you leave home to ask what the road conditions are like next year when your ready to travel.
Happy travelling
Pat

Thanks for all the replies. I might contact the
Park Rangers when the time gets a bit closer.

I would ring ahead and if they say it is ok then record the name of the person that you are talking to. The signs say NO even if the road is ok according to some people. It does occasionally rain in that area and was closed due to flooded creeks etc. for a while in late June this year. The rangers do NOT want to have to deal with some idiot not following the very explicit signs at the begining of the road and getting boged or unable to climb out of some of the stream beds on the access road.
