Members,

Here's an unusual request. We're finalising development of a new TrekTable and would like your assistance. This new design is based upon High Density PolyEthelene (HDPE) which uses a material quite similar to plastic cutting up boards. This material will offer an alternative for those who prefer a surface which can be easily wiped clean after making lunch or morning tea etc and is suitable for cutting lunches etc without the need for an additional cutting board.

We have three prototypes ready for testing. Obviously we've been testing our own units for several months but we're now ready for some genuine, hardcore testing from serious campers & travellers.

I have 1 x Landcruiser 100 Series plus 2 x GU Patrol prototypes available for testing and am seeking volunteers. All tables are white in colour but the final product will be available in Grey.

These prototypes will be supplied free of charge (including postage) but I do have several strict conditions:

1. You must be a serious camper or traveller who will use the table immediately and every weekend for the next two months. (preferably a tour operator). You must recognise the need and benefit of this product and be prepared to provide rigorous testing.
2. You must have exposure to a wide audience who can evaluate and provide feedback on their thoughts about this product (once again this would suit a tour operator).
3. You must provide feedback when requested (email is OK but would prefer telephone also).
4. I reserve the right to determine who is a suitable tester after I've evaluated the responses. (ie no arguments)

Of course, you get to keep the table after the trial and you can upgrade to a Grey version once available for a heavily discounted price.

If you are interested in testing one of these and you meet my criteria above, please email me at info@trektable.com.au or call on 07 3848 3946.

If you fit my criteria but don't have one of the vehicles listed, still email me in case I don't get any suitable volunteers. If you can recommend a tester who may not be an EO forum reader, please let them know about this request or drop me an email with their details.

This is not a gimmick and thanks for your assistance.

Andrew,

Keen,

I currently have one of your original tables and find it priceless. I'm out most weekends either in the bush or fishing up and down the coast. I'm not a tour operator but more a generalist.

The idea of having the PolyEthelene would be ideal for cutting bait, cleaning fish etc.

Let me know if I can assist otherwise I'm happy with what I've got.

Regards

Andrew,

I am keen, I was talking with your mother earlier in the week and left my number for you to call back ( I know why you haven't you busy boy ). I live in Brisbane and am a contractor that works and lives out of the back of my GU Patrol.
Literally over 500 clients I call upon up and down the east coast on a regular basis would give fair coverage of the product. I would mainly use it as a workbench so the ability to wipe clean would be priceless.
If I can be of any further assistance you could MM me here or your mum should still have my ph number. I will also send you my details via the e-mail addy you posted.

Kind Regards
Trevor.

Hi Trevor,

My apologies for not getting back to you sooner. You're probably aware that we had the opportunity to take a 'mental break' overseas over the last few weeks so we dropped the kids with the grandparents & redirected the phone lines while away.

I'll try to give you a ring over the weekend or on Monday to catch up & discuss. We only arrived home on Thursday so the last few days have been abit chaotic and I wanted to get the prototype volunteer invite published so I should have abit more time now.

Speak to you soon.

G'day Andrew,
I currently have a home made p.o.s. made out of MDF that I use most weekends. As President of the YP 4WD Club, my GU is always "on display". An example of this is when I have it available for inspection at the local show and also the upcoming YP Field Days on 27, 28, 29 September. My truck was featured (front page no less) in 4WD Monthly last December with the Ultimate Camper Trailer hangin' off the back.
I am not a tour operator, but my rig is used virtually every weekend. The Ultimate is great, but a brief lunch stop etc sees me using the fold down MDF for cutting up sandwinches etc. As you would appreciate, untreated MDF is not an ideal surface for that purpose.
I have removed the vynal covered trim from the large cargo door (rather than drill holes through it to secure the homemade table).
I realise my vehicle usage probably does not meet your preferred criteria, but just thought I'd chuck in my 2 cents worth of dribble anyway!! lol

Cheers mate

Roachie

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the replies so far. Much appreciated. I have many enquiries from GU Patrol owners but I don't yet have any enquiries from Landcruiser 100 Series owners.

C'mon 100 Series owners, I want to hear from you too!

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I, like many, have fabricated a back door table for my GU along similar lines to your tables. Mine is an adapted copy of one a friend made for his GQ. I don't like to drill holes anywhere so mine actually doesn't have a hinge at the bottom but "hangs" on a triangle of webbing at each end from the existing 2 holes in the GU back door (with added stabilisation from some stick on velcro). Has held up ok to date.

The one thing I have a problem with is finding appropriate "buttons" for the 2 top fixings. Do you sell the ones you use (I have seen the photos on your website)? Can you advise a price etc. I am also interested in what method you use to "tap" into the existing hole which is not threaded etc. I have plugged the hole with a plastic gyproc plug and screwed into that.

I will understand if you don't want to help out someone who is not buying your product.

Regards
Trevor

Hi Trevor,

You're right, many people have fabricated their own tables and some I have seen are excellent. Infact, with enough time and abit of hunting around, most people can build their own. all we have done with TrekTable is take a relatively simple idea, and commercialise it, to make it simpler and more achievable for the 4WD owner who doesn't have the time & skill required to develop their own.

Typically, it takes 2 or three attempts to get the design for each vehicle 'just right'. Effort & patience is required to get the shape just right to maximise the working table size for each vehicle, finding the best place to mount the screws, getting a suitable table finish, sourcing professional components etc. We have gone thru this process for a wide variety of 4WDs (we now have 12 different models) so that we now have a professional product with very detailed instructions to allow the 'average' owner to install their own.

So while our idea certainly isn't unique, what we've done is greatly simplify the complexity, skills required & cost (including labour) required to provide a profesional quality product within reach of most 4WD owners. I can't state enough how detailed our instructions are. Most customers can fit their TrekTable within 20 minutes from opening the package and we have had many lady owners fit their own tables (no offence to ladies intended).

Apologies for the long winded answer but we can certainly help with component supply plus tips & tricks like how to use the existing holes in the GU door. Just email me at info@trektable.com.au & we can help you out. (or give me a ring on 07 3848 3946 including Saturdays).

As for drilling holes in your rear door lining. Our view is that provided the end product is professional looking, there's no need to be concerned about drilling the holes in your door because you're actually adding an accessory that will add value to your vehicle when it comes time to sell it. Our tables are strong enough that I often stand on them in the open position for demonstration purposes (but we certainly don't recommend it!) and the finish is professional and matches the door finish well.

Anyway, feel free to drop me an email ro give me a call.
