Good Evening Folks,
We are planing a trip to Kalgoorlie via some Sth East roads and have thought that the
Hyden Norseman Rd from
Hyden to
Norseman could be interesting. However we have never travelled this road, so we would be interested to recieve any info on its condition and suitability to be traversed by small off roader soft roader caravan.
Thanks for any info

We did the road about 12 months ago with Camper trailers - no problems at all.
Closer to
Norseman the road is very
well maintained by mining companies. (take care with some of the heavy mining trucks etc on the road)
There are some good
camping places along the way.

Just check conditions as it is closed when wet. We just had 2 days of rain but it usually isnt closed for long. That trip recently got a write up in a WA campingand outdoors mag. An alternative route that would also be suitable is the
lake king road that goes from
lake king through the frank hann nat
park and past
peak charles

Jeff
Check out the WA Tourist Centres they now call it (the track) the
Granite /
Woodlands Discovery Trail
This is Quoted out of there book Golden Outback
Distance: 300km
Duration: 2 days
Highlights: Virgin
woodlands, rocky outcrops, McDermind and Disappointment rocks, Lake Johnson, bird life, walking
trails
All-weather gravel road suitable for all vehicles, however 4WD recommended
"Crossing the goldfields region between
Hyden and
Norseman, this fascinating new trail offers no less than 16 designated
places of interest along the way, with each stop focusing on a particular aspect of natural or cultural history. Traveller's experience some of the world's most beautiful, untouched eucalypt
woodlands and marvel at the imposing
granite outcrops along the trail.
Wave Rock in
Hyden is a must-see and the route is a wildflower wonderland in spring"
We travel some of it around 2 months ago, we came down the Queen
Victoria Rock road and then the
Hyden-
Norseman road it was after the wet and were square pot holes all over the road, but they should be gradered there are mines in the area and is used by large transport
Regards
Richard

Hi Jeff + Lyn,
This road is a piece of cake. When I lived in
Norseman, I often used it as a short-cut when travelling to
Perth. It took over an hour (closer to two) off the trip time.
There is some marvellous scenery along the way.
McDermid Rock (S 32° 01' 20" + E 120° 44' 16") near Lake Johnson is a favourite of
mine.
Provided it hasn't just rained - your soft roader will handle the road without any problems at all.
Have fun
Stephen J.

Hi Steven J.
Thank you for your info.
We now feel confident that our van will be more than able to survive this most interesting track.
And a little rain always adds to the fun!
Thanks

G'day Jeff & Lyn
We travelled this road on the 11th of this month and like the others say it was a piece of cake.
We towed our c/t without any probs, but they will close it if any rain at all.
If you have any queries at all I suggest you ring
Wave Rock Caravan Park and they should be able to advise you of it's condition.
Safe travells
Jim-Bob.
