An Engineering Company called Sprintek in Malaga Perth manufacture superchargers for a variety of vehicles. The have done the 80 Seies 4.5L petrol/gas and claim approx 40% increase in torque and 30% in power with a substancial saving in fuel during heavy towing and off-road work. Cost about $8000

Any experience or comments would be appreciated.

Regards Grumblebum.

That power gains sound about right, my brother’s friend has a VT S-Pack that he supercharged along with some other modifications and it is now pushing out 270KW compared to a stock V6 eco-tec 151KW.

Does the $8000 include a Dyno tune?
How much Boost is it running?
How is the cruiser now mechanically I.E K’s on motor diff and gearbox still going strong as all the extra power will put a lot of extra strain on everything

Also what type of Supercharger is it as on some the internals are belt driven and the belts have a habet of not lasting to long, but these unit’s are more around the 6K mark

If you have the spear $8000 and you are planing on keeping the 80 for a wile then yes go for it.

Thanks for the info - still in the exploration stage prior to thinking about a justification. Still open to the final option (it may be do nothing) The LC is good a 2000 model with 90,000 and I bought it with 60,000 on. Got all the other upgrades - suspension = rear whell carriers etc so not oveerly keen to change.

Thanks for your info

regards John

We have one on a 100 series cruiser , there figures are a little far fetched . Yes there is a power increase and yes it does have more power. There will also b a increase in power if you put it on gas. To get optimum power , you need to run the correct converter and mixer . Also make sure you upgrade the exaust , ot it will souns like a huge vacume cleaner lol . A piggy back computer is also a must for real HP.

Also On a final note , I hope you have deep pockets for the fuel it will start chewing . If your not willing to thow 10 k at it , dont bother starting

If you have $8000 to spend, you can buy a factory blower from TRD(Toyota Racing Developments). The othe option I have seen is Safari Turbo Systems did a intercooled turbo package for 4.5 litre 80 Series that got write ups in a couple of the 4WD mags, figures looked impressive from memory. These turbo setups turn up in the trading post and on Aussie Ebay from time to time. For the blowers do a search on US Ebay. Sounds like fun either way.

IMO
to get a 40% in power means it will be taking an awful lot of uneccessary boost

dont get a belt driven turbo type ....go for roots such as eaton.

the torque increase is great even at a mild pressure boost of up to 5psi. you shouldnt need anymore...maybe even less.....

and if you dont put it to the floor often your consumption may be on par with what you get now....definitely more if that pedal hits the floor often. In theory a blower should lower fuel consumption but when i had one on a 1968, 998 mini deluxe it certainly didnt...but that was back in the days of "whats EFI?" and one was allowed to melt rubber

Check out CAPA site also in riverland SA to get guide to pricing

Thanks to all the above posted info. Am still exploring options - one of which maybe to change vehicles or do nothing. $8000+ pays for a fair bit of fuel in the do nothing option.

I apppreciate the feedback.

Yeah Sprintex are an aussie maker of very nice twin screw superchargers, (much like a twin screw air compressor) very efficient units that dont heat the air charge anywhere near as much as a twin lobe roots style blower. For that power increase i would guess that between 4-6 psi boost is being used, certainy fine for a stock engine in good nick. Don't forget that you will need to combine it with a new exhaust, headers and 2.5 inch mandrell with straight flow mufflers at a minimum, so allow an extra $800 - 1000 there.

Sprintex are now making a new supercharged v6 magna in cohorts with mitsubishi, looks like a fun machine !!

I Have modified a few US TRD Supercharger Kit,s to fitt the Oz 4.5 ltr landcruiser with very good results, running on LPG the vehicles put out around 136k/w at the wheels and are very trackable.
