Both the NRMA and AAMI are anti 4WDrive,this is reflected in their conditions and premiums.
Luckily in Victoria the RACV although a part of NRMA is more supportive and give a good price if you have other policies with them.
If you are in a club several companies give good cover,in Victoria Alliance is providing deals for member of the 4WDrive Victoria association.
You could try them, but in the end you just have to ring around for the best deal for your particular requirements.
Good luck

I was with RACV, no longer, they were too anal about accesories and mods, now with TCIS, $600 cheaper and an extra $4000 agreed value, can't complain. Now pay slightly more for the Falcon as I lost the second policy discount as it is still with RACV. Mates are shifting to TCIS as their policies expire with other companies, all now paying less with better agreed value. My advice is tell them how much your after, don't let them decide for you. Hope this helps.
PS I have no affiliation with TCIS at all, just that they look after 4WD owners, so I recomend them.

In the past i used the standard insurance companies, then it came to my attention that these companies did not cover the 4wd in off-road conditions. At this point i moved my insurance to TCIS as they came recomended. I was told that i would be covered but to date i can not get the off-road cover in writing. For the last couple of years i have been covered by DGA with both my 4wdrives they cover modifications & off-road in writing the upside it is cheep. Have a look.

Cheers
Dave

I'm also insured through TCIS and found them very helpful with the 1 minor and one larger claim I've had. Premiums are well priced, coverage is good and no hassle when time to claim.

TCIS is a broker and only arrange insurance on your behalf, it will normally be through one of the mainstream insurers.

Coverage for off-road is an old chestnut that seems to come up regularly. Comprehensive policies will normally cover you anywhere that you are legally entitled to be, whether that is on a major highway, or on your mate's property. If they don't exclude it, it is included.

NRMA have just told me that if I want to choose my repairer that I need to pay another 66 bucks a year at the start of the policy. And another $60 bucks if I want a no excess windscreen policy that some others offer as part n parcel.
Unsure if staying is worth it.

Keep us posted.

My experience with NRMA was terrible. in 1998 my then girlfriend was driving my car and had an accident. Her fault. I thought simple, get two quotes and lodge claim. Problem was finding a panel shop that would work for them - very hard.
They all said NRMA screwed them to the bone and they lost money dealing with them. Finally found a desperado that did NRMA work, fitted used parts and quite ordinary job.

Was less than pleased. Never again for me.

Now with RACQ - the panelshop we use at work tells me they are as bad.
He says Allianz is the best for the repairer and ultimately the client gets a better job.

Greetings,
I have just purchased a 2001 Series II TD5 Discovery and have it insured for business use( I am a sales rep), with Allianz Australia through the CPS Credit Union. The Disco is insured for any legal use on and off road and was reasonably priced at $735 including free windscreen replacement. This was less than it cost to insure my Subaru Impreeza RX(non turbo).
Regards
