Hey guys just after some opinions.

Vehicle: 92 V6 4Runner
Odo : 230,000 km

Am about to give the truck its first big service since I purchased it and can't decide on oil. I have always used Penrite in my previous vehicles and been happy with it. I am curious about synthetic oils as my father-in-law is raving about it atm.

Would synthetic be suitable for my vehicle?

Would running synthetic over mineral be beneficial in any way?

Appreciate your thoughts

Hi there bru55el, mate I use to use synthetic in my cars and personally I dont think it is worth the money you pay for it. If you change your oil on a regular basis say evey 10,000lkms your not going to have any trouble. Personally myself I would change it every 5k plus filter, but wouldn't leave it any longer than 10k. As far as synthetic you will probably get different opinions on this subject from people on this forum but that's what it's all about. I use to use mobil 1 synthetic in my commodore and my statesman and found no difference in perfomance. Maybe protection wise internally (things you can't see) might be better. Maybe there is web site that someone will post on here giving you the info you need. My oil was no difference in colour when using synthetic or mineral based after the oil changes. But every one to there own opinion. The old hilux is diesel so I use a diesel oil in that caltex anti soot wear probably just a sales pitch but hey they all do it. Either way you will decide which way to go but when youv'e done the big service get out there and have some fun in it. Take Care Vitara

I agree synthetic is only for hi tech engines that use very close tolerances as per the very latest engines use it in earlier engines is a waste of money and your engine will be noisier.

I have a 91 V6 4Runner which has done 201,000 Km and have used nothing but Penrite diesel oil in the motor, and its still going like new. Would not use anything else. Dont think synthetic oil is suitable for hard working 4x4 motors. The thicker the oil the better it gets when the going gets tough and retains its viscosity. Thats my opinion for what its worth. Apart from the cyl heads being recalled under factory warranty never had an engine problem since using Penrite Diesel 20w60. Change the oil every 5000Km and filter as well. Hope that helps.
