Got a lift from Widgiemooltha to
camp with the Geo on Thursday and the ute was cutting out until she lifted the foot and accelerated again. The next day i was on shift change so went to drive into Kambalda and bugger me - exactly the same problem. Currently the Geo ute is in the workshop and my ute had to be towed there. My ute has 10,000k on the clock and the geo ute isnt much older. The way they just totally lost power I suspect they have a fault with the fuel shutoff solonoid - not what you would need out bush!

Davoe,
what motor are we talking here??
I've heard of something similar with the 1HT-FTE in the 100series, but not yet in the 79series.
Let us know the end result.
Cheers
Phil

The other potential cause is the dual battery tray if one is fitted on the 1HD-FTE motor. You have to move a black box which is something to do with the ECU. It is critical that that black box is
well earthed, otherwise the ECU can fail. Thats something thats not obvious.
I used the belts and braces approach and ran an extra earth lead from that box as
well as earthing it
well thru the battery tray.

ROTFLMAO duel batteys and turbos
yea i wish try a bog stock 79 ute.
I went over to the workshop and sure enough it wouldnt start so I pumped the fuel thumb pump a few times and played with the solonoid wire and it fired straight up so I am a bit unsure what the problem is

Davoe,
Answers people give are only as good as the info you provide.
When you ask a question about an engine problem, you should say which motor - after all theres 3 different motors available on the 79series.
Most new ones around here are the factory Turbo-diesels. Even the Govt depts get them in preference to the 1Hz.
Cheers

Sorry I didnt mean to offend I just had a picture of work giving me a TD (dare to dream) I guess I have only driven or seen 1hz being used for work (even when I worked for the gvt) certainly never seen a petrol one
Anyway they reckon they found the problem on the utes being the power isolation switches fitted to the bullbars of underground vehicles...... We shall see
