We have a plastic handled shovel we use for camping.

The problem is that the handle is white and powdery not the yellow plastic or maybe fibreglass it used to be.

It's still strong and rugged but im worried it might be on the way out.

I thought i might put something on it like armour-oil or something. I just dont want to put the wrong thing on it and buggar it up completely.

Any ideas???

if its the type I am thinking (actually a spade not a shovel?) then you can buy these at Bunnings when on special for about $15 or less. Possibly not worth fussing too much about the old one at that sort of price.

I bought a green plastic handled spade from K-Mart 3 years ago for $10. Still going strong after many bush trips and landscaping the backyard. Went to K-Mart last weekend to buy a rake and the spades were still $10!!!

I got one from bunnings a while ago a broke it when my vechicle got stuck, I've seen one with a orange handle at supercheap that are alot stronger for about $13, but I went down to Aussie disposals and brought a mid 1900's jeep shovel for about $15, real tuff and proven and I highly recommend one of these. Good for everything from Vechicle recovery to digging a loo.

I've got a Cyclone "4WD and camping shovel" from Bunnings - was about $50, but it is top quality. Lacquered wooden handle, hasn't needed sanding or oiling in 2 years. Lives in the third seat well of the Pajero - can't ever forget it.

Not quite the thing for digging out under the body on sand dunes, but it's bloody useful otherwise.

I thought I'd heard everything, but a 4WD and camping shovel!

please satisfy my curiosity and enlighten me of the plaudits of this marketing ploy, sorry specialist digging tool...........against a normal shovel...

Does it work better than a long handle general purpose shovel?

What the hell is this, a contest. I've got this I've got that doesn't answer the question.

How about painting it.
