Woolworths Fuel stations are running a promotion this month. If you pay by Visa and use a fuel voucher you get 8c/L off. Only in NSW and QLD though i think.
Filled up with 150L tonight and saved $12. Every bloody cent counts at the moment! :\

In
Perth, I just bought 6 bottles of wine from Liquorland (min spend $30), got a 20c-off-per-litre voucher, then bought 134 litres of diesel from
Coles Express, and saved $28!! Not sure if it's running in other states.

Check out Liquorland itself. Think the offer runs out 4th Sept.
I got the info from my usual junk mail in the letterbox last week. Buy 6 bottles of wine to a min value of $30 and you get a voucher, along with your sales receipt giving a total of 20c/litre off.

Ahhhhhhhh it just brings home how much they have us on the treadmill with all the big companies buying up all the supply chains. Chuck out some discounts here and there and the punters will hardly notice the fact that only 3 or 4 super companies now own all the
places we depend on to run our lives and they will hardly notice that in the space of 18 months they are paying 150% of what they paid for the essentials of daily existence!
This time last year I budgeted on my diesel going maybe up to 90 cents a litre and being able to get a loaf of bread for less than 3 bucks.
Cheers
Muddy

Ah... that generous! Thanks Woolies!
Let's see here...... jack it up 12 cents, let the plebs pay 4 cents less and those that use credit cards in our supermarkets we'll let off at 8 cents off. We love our public. Did you know you'll be able to buy all your pharmaceuticals from us soon? Your corner chemist won't be there soon...... but we'll be here to save your day!
Sorry................. the cynic is coming out.....
8 cents off? I'm in....

Sob - no such offer here yet - nobody cares
about us in SA - we're just an economic backwater..... but its a great place to live as we languish horribly under our economic privations.

What happened to the SAFF outlets which used to have the cheapest fuel in SA? When we went through last year, just on the main run through the state saw quite a few SAFF outlets; this year we were touring around SA and only saw one. (Not including the famous SAFF outlet at
Mundrabilla SA - the cheapest fuel on that stretch. Did the big companies kill the cheaper operators in SA?

Buggered if I know about SAFF - there is one or two around the place - maybe they have a website - re Woolies - 4 cents off is most oftren not 4 cents less than you can get elsewhere ! And re people lining up down the road to save $2 at Woollies - bloody mad.... get real.

who cares if the corner pharmacy is no longer there and go broke
the corner pharmacy have ripped everybody off for to long
you only have to compare the prices of the online pharmacy to the ripoff corner pharmacy

Breadman, i will support my local pharmacy coz i want them to be there when i am sick and need a prescription filled in a hurry. Sure it may be a bit cheaper from that mail order, but it takes 2 weeks or so in the mail! I do buy Paracetamol from Woolworths because it is so much cheaper - but one packet of Panadol a year is not a big loss to the locals. All depends where you live i suppose.

"the sooner woollies coles and aldi get into pharmaceuticls the better "
So... you won't mind when Woolies owns all the food, liquor and pharmaceutical outlets huh. You, like many others don't seem to want to see the main point. Once these guys DO own all the competition, they will, at that point, excercise their monopoly and charge whatever they want. Where else are you going to go then?
Competition is good.... not bad. Don't forget that it is the little guys out there keeping the big guys at least sort of honest.

Good way to kill off any and all opposition in the market place , take a loss for a short time , then bump up all prices later when you have a captive market , just have a look at the variety in the canned goods area of coles +woolies now ,getting less and less with more and more shelf space for their 'OWN ' brands ,,,,

While they keep the "ownbrand" quality down around dogfood level and use 100% imported ingredients, they won't be selling me any whacko hippy foreign peas or corn :-)

I remember that useless hunk of chit from the ACCC (the little ferret headed thing) saying when coles etc bought into the service stations
"Oh I think there will always be enough companies round to keep the market competitive".
Wonder how much they paid him off to like through his teef like that..?
Yes, when theres only 2 companies left selling it do they really think there isnt price fixing going on?

Hi, Alloy,
I understand where you're coming from, but look at it this way; buy 6 bottles of Sacred
Hill shiraz or white (quite reasonable drinking) for $30, load up your jerries, then go down the road to
Coles Express, and buy 150 litres of diesel or whatever, save $30 off the fuel bill (which, without the discount, was pretty close to the other outlets anyway), you've just got your wine for free, and you've most likely created a loss for Coles. Can't see how they can keep that up for too long.
But I do feel sorry for the indepenent outlets.

3-4 major companies controlling the prices?

Bet my bottom dollar they are making a profit on the whole package Joc. Anyway, unless the wine will run my Patrol, I'm happier without it, and paying local price for the diesel.

Saw on telly the other night where people were queuing up to get their woolworths 4 cents off, with the independent fuel station across the road with prices displayed 16 cents cheaper than they were paying at the woollies outlet, and he had hardly any customers!

If he is right, Steve Forbes' prediction that oil prices are unsustainable, and only held aloft by speculative forces alone, will plunge to $30 to $35 per barrel within the next year would be a nice relief to everyone. I hope he's right - and being who he is, he's a lot more "connected" than most.
