Hi,

Just recently purchased a Meridian Colour Magellan GPS.

I am having trouble entering in Way Points Data.

Can someone help me here.

I have to enter in WPT1 340 176mE 6 568 282mN

How do I put this into the GPS? It doesn't allow me to enter in all these numbers!

I am using Australian Geodetic '66. Zone 50 J.

Thanks in advance.. its really frustrating me! I am using the Discover Australian to enter in the data for way points aswel, same problem, won't allow me to enter in all these numbers.

Thanks in advance

Jenelle

I'm a Garmin man myself so I'm not familar with Meridian units, but......

The figures you quoted are actually UTM co-ordinates, sometimes referred to as "Eastings and Northings".

Check the configuartion of your GPS for data entry - you may have to change it from "Degrees, minutes" to "UTM" first.

Your display should then reflect the correct data entry mode

In your case it will expect you to enter
Zone = 50J
East = 340176
North = 6568282

Which puts it near Lancelin - is that where you expect it to be?

Cheers
Jeff

hi jenelle you got a mighty fine peice of equipment there :))
(and not because I have one too!)
There are places you an download the user manual, if you don't have one!!

First up! Have you set the co-ordinate system in the setup menu?
[Menu]->Setup->Coord System[Enter]-> Primary[Enter]
choose the UTM system (I'm sure the Lat/Lon is default)
While you are in there it may be an idea to set the Secondary Coord system to Lat/Lon. (I'll explain in a min :)
To create a user waypoint: press (and hold for 2 seconds) the [GOTO] button.
This will bring up a screen where you can dd you info into the unit for your waypoint.
Very easy to do, use the up/down/left/right 'joystick' to navigate your way through.
When you land on a box you want to edit press the [ENTER] button again. Waypoint names can only be 8 characters long!!

Once your waypoint is saved you can view it by pressing [MENU] scroll to database[ENTER] and select User Waypoint. Any waypoints you have created will be here.

What is the Secondary Coord??.........(I'm glad you asked :))
If you set this to Lat/Lon then you can view 2 different sets of coordinates at the same time, using the "Position" Nav screen. The one where you see coords, time, trip odometer, and speed and heading info. Press the Left/Right scroll pad and the screen will show you the two coord info screen. Handy if you want to quickly view your posi on two different systems/maps, etc.....

Now after all this, I can safely say that you NEED to get the new DiscoverAus Streets and Topo maps. In a word.......BRILLIANT!
Detail is amazing, topo info is accurate (in my area!), but it's horrendously priced :(( about $350-400!
It does come preloaded on an SDcard, so it's ready to use.
Worth it?.........maybe!! (I know in 6 months it will come down to $300, but I want it now :)

cheers. have fun with your MeriColor, and maybe join us @ GPSAustralia
