Well we are just back yesterday from our long awaited trip around this huge country - had the best time - some places are terrific - some just so-so - had some interesting times - ran into Willem at Cocklebiddy - he was just heading up the Connie Sue - away from bad weather back in early June - saw several exploroz stickers - will put some more info in as I get time -
don't know whether it is good to be back or not - storms last night - cold today (Melbourne) -

We went around the big apple twice, five years in between. What a difference. Whatever you experienced I can assure you of one thing, you'll remember it fondly in years to come.

Welcome back Jules...I still haven't settled in after only a month away, so know how you feel, I'd rather be out there somewhere.

Romsey [Nth of Melb] got the tail end of Hurricane Katrina I think...

cheers

Planning to do a round Aus trip, when I get home from USA.
Just wondering for my own info, how long were you gone, how much did you spend??
If you don't mind sharing.
Thanks.

We only had 3 months - not nearly long enough - but saw the things we had on our must do list -
fuel is the most expensive thing - we are lucky our vehicle is very economical - Terrano II 2.7 turbo diesel - towing an off road Dingo camper trailer - most expensive diesel was in WA - 1.65.9 in Nanaturra - on the way to Tom Price - fuel was around $3500 for us - there are a lot of freeby overnight stops on the way up the west coast - if the timing is right - pointless stopping at 1 or 2 o'clock just because it is free - caravan parks are around $20 per night for power - most expensive was Broome - $25 in the overflow as all the normal parks were full - but we were in the Pistol Club overflow which was great - kind of bushy - but with all facilities. Our best investments have been our 42 litre Bushman 2 way fridge and dual battery system and our electric frypan and our Cobb Oven cooker -12 volt light and shower and shower tent - and a small lidded bucket for the middle of the night essential.
in total we spent about $10,000 - but that included new tyres, new tailgate window ($856!!!).
We loved it - though sometimes especially on the west coast - it felt like we were never getting anywhere.
Go for it -jules

Thanks for sharing. It would appear that I will have to work for awhile in between trips to save up. Bugger.

Jules,

The wife and I also returned recently from a 3 month NT & WA trip. This took in the GRR and Karajini NP, etc. We shared a drink or two around the fire with Willem and co at Karajini.

We just loved being on the road meeting all those tremendous people doing the same thing. There are some magic areas in our great country, who wants to go overseas.

But, (sigh) it is back to work again to pay for the next one.

Geoff.

Have been home for 18 months after a year and a bit doing the 'Lap of Oz'.
Went to the quack the other day because I thought I had Tinea, but he said no sign of that.
Nor could he find any other reason for the itch in my foot. Any ideas anyone?

G'day Jules

Ahhh the discontent after a long trip away.
We never settled after ours three years ago. Fixed that after six months though, moved 3,500km from one end of the state to the other!
Whats this COLD you talk about!!

Hi Julie,
Would love an idea of your itinerary. We are planning our trip for next year ie NT and WA. Leaving from Gosford NSW and heading out to SA and up Oodnadatta then up Nth pulling off road camper. Plan on doing the GRR.
regards
Brad
