Hello,
Yep, in a 2WD
Tarago 1990, so I know all you 4by guys will poke fun at me. Take your best shot!
The crux of my question is, Has anyone installed any wiring through a
Tarago (pref early 90's) firewall before? I can't find any holes / grommets / bungs / plugs or whatever else you wanna call it. Maybe in leui of a hole, whats the best way to find a spot to drill though? Or should i REALLY not do that.
For more info: Just in the process of installing a small 60AH AGM Aux battery in the back to be taken offboard for
camp. Connection will be via a 50amp Anderson. Running 100amp cable, from the back under the carpet through the firewall, through a 30A fuse, then through a Red-Arc (thank's to the boys at Wynnum Towbars, $95 via Ebay!) and onto my standard 440CCA. My problem is the "through the firewall" part. Any takers?
Thanks to everyone whose posted about Dual Batts, Isolators, etc... on this
forum, all the info i got from you is highly appreciated. And man, some of you guys can really get fired up on the subject!

Are there any holes in the floor you could use? Handbrake, or around the little center pocket.

Dear, dear KChan, surely you can find something that goes thru the firewall !!.
1. do you have a steering column ?
2. do you have an air con.
water drain hose ?
3. clutch rod, accelerator cable, bonnet release cable, air conditioner hoses ?

I thought that too, in a
Tarago the firewall is basically the floor, so everything should be sealed up tighter than a snare drum in Barbados. That of course would be the hardware firewall not the software one, refer other firewall post for clarification.
Once you do find a hole or make one you will need at least two noddles to choke the cable thru the hole and protect its cores.

Yep, as Bonz says, everythings tight as a Barbadan (?) snare! Can't poke no holes anywhere! But i think i'm sorted, The
tarago has a service hatch under the passengers
seat, i think i'll drill a hole through that or next to it, and run the cable under the car from the front
seat to the engine bay. There should be no problems with that right? This is my first self-install, don't want it to become a 'whoops' moment.

yer you should be aslong as you make sure you dont drill thru anything and use a grommet, and I don't mean a small lifesaver.

Go to an electrical supplies store and get something called a "gland". It is a plastic grommet that has to be screwed together (like a bolt with a hole down the lengthr of it), that has a airtight rubber seal to clamp against the cable.
If you are talking of a battery connection you would want something larger and stronger than just a rubber grommet, given the vibration it will be experiencing.

I went and got myself a gland today to put to wire through, they are great little gizmos! perfect for this applicati0n, much better than a gromet. Thanks GaryInOz!!!
