Hj47- and 60 series compare

Sell you a 2H and an unfitted ARB turbo for half that. But yeah, you may need to shift the cross member for the gearbox, other than that easy.

the motor is the same and drop in with your engine mounts but the box is a different kettle of fish.

with the box being a five speed your mount should work..... I said should work? but you will need different drive shafts and I dont think the 60 series shafts will fit. the good news is you should be able to use your own diffs though the the 60 series diffs have a lower ratio for better hy-way work.

Thanks for your thoughts everybody, I know it hurts to pull a car like that apart but I think its still a smart way to give the old beast a new life.
I have a talk to the mechanic and see what he says. Pretty sure thats the way I go.

having owned a hj75 (which has pretty well the same set up as the hj60) and now driving a hj47 i thing you could spend your $8000 in a better way.
i would rebuild your engine and rebuild the 4 speed box(and transfer case) in the hj47. to get an overdrive i would put a fairy overdrive in. this would end up costing you i think less than $8000 all up. engine around $4000, box and transfer case around $3000 and overdrive less than $1000.
that to me makes more sense because you then basically have a new drivetrain that will last you another 500,000 kilometres. i would rather that than a second hand motor and gearbox that has 150,000 kilometres and may need work done soon. especially the gearbox as they do have a tendency to throw 5th gear after 200,000 klms and that requires a rebuild.
from my experience the original ratios on the hj47 make for a quicker accelerating vehicle than the hj60 and with the overdrive installed you get the fuel savings of the overdrive.
anyway that is what i would do to my hj47 if i had the money.
