Hi
Know exactly what you mean. After I picked up my 2003 (S/hand) GU it started. Spent the first weekend pulling apart all the doors, tightening everything, tying cables etc etc. The result was absolutely zero. the rattle still there.

Was talking to a neighbour the following weekend and we were standing behind the vehicle. He just put his hand on the backdoor to lean against and I heard a click. Believe it or not the door was not fully closed. Have not made any adjustments but just make sure I close it solidly.............hence now no rattle

Had something similar with my 00 model. Found both the door had to be shut quite hard, and that the tack weld on the hinge inside the body had come adrift - ended up inserting some bolts to hold it all together

Had the same spot weld break on my 98 DX, drilled and screwed through it and so far the noise has gone. But that noise was only an issue when opening or closing the rear doors.

The other source of noise i had when i first got the truck came from the plastic inner guard beneath the fuel filler pipes, which sounds to me like what your talking about. It was a knocking sound that happened as I drove along on rough roads, smooth roads it didn't matter.

It depended a bit on the speed i was travelling because the wind would be what was moving it around. It drove me nuts for awhile, I even had a mate sit in the cargo area listening as I drove.

One day I was laying under there having a look around (as you do) and bumped it with my hand and it was the "noise". One self tapper later and I was in driver's heaven......It's a protective cover for the filler pipes i assume and it is fixed to the body with plastic thingys, 2 of which had broken off.

good luck with it

Yeah my 2000 GU did the same till I found the fix. First find a rather large Palm Tree. Reverse into it just hard enough to cut through the spare tyre cover.

Bingo, all fixed???. Tried to sell the fix to Nissan but for some reason they weren't interested???

I had the same thing in my Terrano 2, nearly drove me crazy ....... turned out to be the spot welds holding the internal reinforcing bracket for the door mounted spare wheel, so I bolted where I could, & used 3/16" monel pop rivets elsewhere.
@ outback trips later including the Simpson & no further problems!

The rattle in mine turned out to be the number plate bady fitted. Now all I have to do is stop the bloody squeak when you open the big door.
