Tray back canvas canopy

I welded mine up on the patrol ute out of 35mm RHS and put a sheet metal colourbond roof on it. I then dropped it off at the canvas people who made up the 4 sides.

When I had the vehicle I travelled alot through QLD and had no trouble, it didn't leak and the dust was not a problem either. If you are going to make it square (no angles) make sue you make it slightly smaller than the tray as this helps with sealing against water and dust.

For the roof make sure you put plenty of support brakets in so the colourbond doesn't have any flex.

how was the canvas fixed to the roof, particularly on the corners?

We had one on the back of the Cruiser. We started with a 2nd hand one, made of fine weld mesh covered in tin - which we ripped off, and we made the frame fit our tray. It sloped in slightly at the top, and had a roof rack which fitted onto upright bolts. We had a canvas made to fit with a clear window in the back, which zipped down or could be rolled right up. The only mistake we made was having it go behind the bars behind the rear window, so when it rained, it ran down and onto the tray - we should have had it covering the front and down to keep the tray dry (if you can understand what i mean). I don't have any photos, but can take a photo of the frame which is down at the shed. It was the very best camping - just pull in anywhere we wanted to stop, pull off the luggage (that was a nuisance - particularly if it rained), and roll out the swag on to tray up away from all the creepy crawlies; slept looking up at the stars through the rolled up back. "Windows" on the sides as well would have been a good idea as seeing to back was difficult in places like a shopping centre car park.
