For the owners of 2005 GU IV's I have just converted the original tail lights from dummy's to full working lights including indicators for lees than $20, it takes a lot of patience but is quite easy if you dont want to purchase the originals from Japan or Arabia for around $500.
I simply pulled out the dummy lens and as these lights are glued together I used a seringe to drizzle a good quality paint thinner along the joint line between the two halves and let it soak in after doing this several times I used a stanley knife to start to separate the two halves still using the paint thinner to continue to break down the glue as I slowly worked along the joint lines, I cannot stress enough that you must be gentle and patient as it takes a while to separate the two halves.
Try the paint thinner on an area that is not seen first as some thinners react with and can dammage certain types of plastic. I also did not go overboard with the paint thinner either, just enough to keep the joint line wet.
Once the two halves are separated you can then remove the top red lens by springing the locking clips for the lens from the rear. I removed all the lenses while I drilled out the holes for the lamp holders and then simply replaced all the lenses except for the top red lens as I put yellow lamps in there for the indicators.
At this point I glued the two halves back together with silicon so that if it is needed to separate them again it will be much easier.
I ran three wires from the left to the right side under the door strip just inside the back doors (one each for the following Earth, reverse and tail light) all the other wires are already there. Left hand side already has the earth, left turn, stop ,tail and reverse light wires in the existing plug and on the right hand side the right turn and stop light wires are already there.
All up up it took me a days work and as I said $20 in parts (Lamps and lamp holders)
Hope that this may be of help to those who may want to get their lights working.

Cheers
Treker

Good to see you having a go with an acceptable result. It was the best thing I have done with the GU especially when towing.
cheers

Well done you smart arses with less than constructive coments. You may ask 4x4 treker 'why bother' well...excuse me but why did YOU bother replying if you had nothing constructive to say.???

4x4 treker just offered some 'personal experience' on a matter he obviously has some 1st hand experience at and you choose to take the piss. GOOD ONYA IDIOTS

this forum is all about what this post was originally all about until a few decided otherwise. Just save your comments if you have nothing constructive to add.

And heaven forbid, some of us may have found it worth while!!!
