Hi,
Having tented for the last 10 years ( mainly in the NT) we have to upgrade to a camper trailer due to the addition of two boys ( where did they come from??).
We are very interested in the "Outback campers" built in Wangara WA.
The standard camper comes with the usual water tank, tool box, tail gate kitchen etc. The upgrades we are considering are: 12v Power, breaks, awning walls.
We will be pulling it with an AWD Ford territory ( great car) so we wont be doing any major off road treks, just the standard national park tracks.Has anyone heard any good or bad reports about these?
We are also planing on updating or 25 Lt Engle (1970's) to a 110 Weaco, your thoughts??

Any advice on any of the above will be appreciated.

Cheers & Beers.
Brad..

I suggest you check out Wandering Star in Welshpool. I owned one of their CT's for over 10 years and I can highly recommend them.

Brad,

I have been looking at them myself and they seem a good trailer. I am looking at them converting my off trailer ie fit the tent etc to it so that I can use it as a trailer or a camper.

By the way I am a WO2 SIB at Leeuwin and just put in my discharge after 22 yrs. 9 months leave and then roll on my DFRDB. Just got to find a decent paying job - can't wait; however, it's going to be hard being a civy (not!!!).

Crock,
I have had an an Outback for a few years now and we are wrapped in it.
We have added a few extras of our own to suit us .(QS innerspring orthopedic matress, electric water pump, deepcycle battery, sloping annexe walls for extra space, reflective sun roof for the hot places,)
We have had trips up north a few time and across to Tas and around NSW &Vic so it has done stinking hot to freezing bloody cold and we are still happy.
I have a 50lt Cole fridge now marketed as Coolmen (made in Bibra Lake)and it is the most robust on the market today. also very efficient though I am not very technical minded so it may pay to check with them on the specs.

Thanks Ray, we too are planing a trip to tassie later next year, will be looking for tips closer to that time..
Was the 50lt large enough?? I have two boys ( 7&3) myself and the boss.
The boss feels 110 lts will be too big.

Hi Brad,
We too looked at the Outback CT built in Wangara and it was very impressive - unfortunatly so was the price. It may pay you to look at Down Under Camper Trailers. Paul (the proprietor) does all the canvas work and has the trailer built to his specs - very similar to the Outback trailer. He has a young family and uses CTs himself. We had one and ventured into the Kimberley and Pilbara last year with it - no issues. Paul has included some very important ideas into the tent section that you don't always find in other makes. One of those areas is the amount of support given to the canvas roof - you don't want it pooling water in a downpour. Unless they have changed the design, IMHO the Outback does not have enough roof support in the tent section.
Happy camping,
Mike and Jan.
