I'm trying to get an understanding of the Dual Battery Isolators that are available.

Does anyone know of an Isolator that uses an Electronic MOSFET to provide the connection between the two batteries, rather than a Solenoid or Relay.

The Jaycar/DickSmith KIT is the only one I have come across.

I used the kit you are talking about for about a year, but I have gone back to the Solinoid/Relay type. Even though they reckon there is no voltage drop accorss the mosfet deisgn I was still getting some. The relay give no visible voltage drop on my meter and is more reliable IMHO.

The Silicon Chip Design ADDS IN a 0.1 Ohm resistor (1 volt at 10 Amps) to provide protection against reverse flow through the MOSFET Diode.

We are importing one at the moment which is similar technology, but also switchable, stackable, and 300 amp + for winching etc

powergate

Some also use voltage sensing relays.

Do you also import the MobiArc Alternator Welders ?

Stick with a solenoid or relays no problems the mosfet type have problems drain back.

Try Ashdown electrical wholesalers or your local autoelect .TRANSPO an american name sell many types of true batt isolaters size is dependant on alternator output as they split the output current to each batt depending on which one requires it .They were also imported by Baxters auto elect wholesalers..

There is one isolator that swaps batteries and charges them seperate rather than joining them together....can anyone assist in the name...they do 2 or 3 batteries...joining a low battery to a charged one lessens the life of both plus the amps flow is unrestricted till they even out in volts.

Thats them......they charge each battery independantly, starting at the main...which makes more sense than just joining the batteries together once main reaches charged stste....
I installed a second alt from an old datto and ran 2 complete systems....cheaper than an isolator, better in many ways, but not easier.
