Morning all

Approx a week ago I purchased a new FM/AM play everything CD (incl MP3) to install in the Troopy to upgrade the OEM FM/AM Cassette player. (Still working ok)

Anyway to day I decide to go back to same store and purchase two extra speakers.

Weeeeell! on entering the shop the guy who sold it to me spots me coming and a look comes over his face that says ‘Oh! S H I T, this coota is gonna ask me a question’.

And I do, “do you have/sell external mount speakers for these vehicle systems.

Response – vacant stare into space and dead silence, then a tentative “um! No, don’t think so”.

Well how about a small computer type speaker then . Ans: “dunno, try over there in the house sound system area”

This dude follows me and when I point out a nice little wall mount speaker with a price tag nearby of $2,999 on it, and ask him how much for the pair; he points to the $2,999 and says “that’s how much”

Nearly faint with shock, however another dude sails over with a look on his face that says, Mate! I’ll give you an answer. Whether its genuine of bulls h i t, I’ll definitely give you an answer.

How much for those speakers I repeat.

He says “ not much, however they come in the full surround system sound kit for $2,999 and I can’t break the kit.

Well! What to do. Called into JAYCAR on the way home which I should have gone to in the first place.

$45 later, a perfect set of 38mm dia speakers, with ext mounts for the hi-fi system, and the salesman was a real know your product, Mr service type of guy.

Plus speaker wire at 0.45c a metre, compared with the other place at $1.00 per m for exactly the same stuff

G'day Ken,

Mate, you shoulda asked me.....I've gotta brand new set of 4 speakers (2 x biggish and 2 x smallish) that are in my shed, still in their box. Brand is "Sound 4" and I've haddem for about 6 years from when I put a 6 stacker system in the old GQ and didn't use the speakers.

Next time....ask first!!!!

Hoo Roo (:-))

You two are a disgrace.

Are your mothers aware that you play on puters unsupervised.

Don't you worry about.

There is plenty more in reserve for all you 4 'Nissan Mafia' members when appropriate.

To late now but

What you should have done. Just ditch the factory speakers from the troopy as they are most likely small and chite 15Watt RMS max (and where they are positioned, the back of the speaker does not get a good air seal so sound quality is not good), and your new head unit is pushing out something around 35-50 Watt per channel. So in the back you install 2- 3way 6*9 inch speakers then in the door’s in the front 2- 6-Inch splits, the improvement in sound quality would amaze you.

I am surprised the salesman did not try to sell you a similar set up when you brought the new head unit (Cd player).

Its never to late Exploder.

Haven't even started the install of the radio or speakers yet, however have been codgitating a fair amount re same though. I'm actually flat chat get everything ready for the winch re-install next week.

When its all said and done the subject electronics are being installed in a real mans machine (Troopy), and not one of those soft 'pink panther' Nissan creature comfort things that others drive.

Also with the camper fitout in the back there is only the front cabin to work with accoustic wise.

So those little high power/output speakers I described above are going to fit perfectly up behing his and hers head (somewhere) and I hear where you are comming from for the front ones. I am looking at upgrading them if possible.

The Troopy does not have provisions (Factory holes/spaces) in the doors for speakers and I am not about to stress myself retro fitting some in there.

I am having enough 'fun' with heater box's, cabling for internal winch control switches etc etc without falling for that one as well.

After all SWMBO insists on listening to John (&^%$##^&) LAWS when we are travelling and any other bolshevik, socialist, ratback talkback coota she can tune into, (including the womens country hour) and I am not about to enhance the quality of that diatribe.

Thanks for the tip/thoughts though and I will check out upgrading the front in dash speakers, however its a tight squeeze in there, so I'm not holding my breath that something of a higher quality but same size is avaliable.

Regards

Ken Robinson

'lucy'

Fit the rear speakers as high as possible & facing forward or they will 'disappear' when you load the back up...

They will just up behind our heads, unless I pull them out and toss them in a fit of rage.

Thanks for the input.

Good morning to you Brian.

Its good to know that the 'numero uno' of the Gold Coast 'pink creature comfort Nissan Mafia' is on my case so early in the morning. (LOL).

I am afraid us left over real men of the world just have to put up with our rough as guts, go anywhere, magnificent machines.

Starting to think that I shouldn't have started this 'hi-fi' replacement gig.

All I wanted to be able to do was play MP3's to thwart SWMBO penchant for the talkback, bolshevik stations when travelling.

Any speaker will do.
