This has got to be the wierdest engine fault ... engine starts and idles OK only if no weight is on the driver side of the vehicle. Sit in the driver's
seat and it coughs and farts and carries on (not jibes about my weight here either guys) until is stops. Adding weight to the passenger has no effect. We tend to think it is a fuel starvation problem but not sure. As a starting point intend changing the fuel filter....but can't find it. Would be grateful if someone could tell us where the inline fuel filter is located.
BTW...if this was my patrol I'd know all these things but it's the son-in-law's cruiser and we are just starting to learn its nuances.

Seriously, sounds like you have the bone pointed in the right direction. Also might be worthwhile to check any wiring looms that flex when weight is applied.

if its the 4.5 litre petro the in line fuel filter is on the passenger side of the engine just under the inlet manifild, its a metal one.
there isnt any after market wiring running under the
seat thats causing a short is there

Hi
Start with looking at the fuse box on the drivers side......also look at the black pipe that goes to the moor from the filter...they crack around the bellows and air leans out the mix at idle....dont know why sitting in drivers
seat makes a difference....
02 sensor is there under the drivers feet....again cant see how it would change anything by sitting on the
seat...what about if you change drivers..

Thanks everyone - will check out the suggestions offered. Changing drivers doesn't make a difference. Simply need to add weight to the RHS of vehicle for it to start coughing and sputtering - will change the fuel filter and note the change. Any futher ideas will be greatly appreciated.

this might sound a bit wierd ,try jacking up the front axle 'drivers side' maybe a wire earthing out or maybe a faulty kll switch

Thanks all - solved the problem. There was a small split in the main air pipe from the air filter box - couple of metres of duct tape and the problem is fixed. New air pipe is $180 and has to be ordered in.
