Could someone who knows actual data please respond to the following
After having just completed travelling the Stock Route , I am currently putting together my Photo Album with diary and notes.
1. Does any one know the details of the fire which burnt out the Ford Explorer at the Top End. Was it a Spinifex Fire or was it actually an Electrical Fault or Other and was the vehicle travelling North almost completed the Route.
2. Can any post the Actual case details of the Landrover Disco and the Diff Broken which happened this season and took 6 days to get a replacement (We saw the little wooden
plaque in
the desert. What caused the problem and how did you go about the repair.
3.There was a rumour going through the trip about a Nissan Patrol having punched its rear springs up and the Vehicle was recovered and repaired by Nissan. What were the details and when did it happen.
All the above info could be helpfull to other intended travellers.

Where there any boggy sections
How deep was Savory
creek at the main crossing
Your details would be appreciated

No problems at all except if you are unlucky enough to get behind the
Tag Along tours . 2 groups we met heading North were 16 vehicles and they tend to dig up the dunes a bit
No boggy patches - Savoury
Creek was a dry crossing at the Western End but you can cross half way up if you wish to cross small
water but not good for car
The Corrugations are pretty bad with the Southern Section a little Rocky but nothing to bad if you take your time.We did the trip in 12 days heading South but that was a bit quick due to time restraints. We didn't see Calvert Ranges as we were told by 2 groups that it was badly burnt out and 35 kms in of rough track. Cant confirm this as many stories you hear are exaggerated.
Make sure you stay 3 nights at Derba Springs minimum to have a look around
my number is 0438602533 if you want to ring tomorrow

Thanks for the info Trevor.
Leaving 6am Tuesday morning and probably won't have time to phone you as I will be out of mobile phone areas faily soon.
But thanks for the offer.
I will let you know, on this
forum, how the trip went.
I will be keeping a day to day diary on track conditions, fuel consumption, distance travelled each day and fuel prices.
Cheers for now

Trevor
I was looking out for you but you must have finished the CSR by the time we started it - was worried you'd not made it!
We pulled out at
Well 33 after 4 days of rain with the probability of getting
well stuck in the top half.
Can't help you with your Q's though!
Andy

We went through without any rain- Started around the 10th Aug and completed around the 23 rd
Only rain we saw was left over puddles near
Carnegie Station on our way back along the Gun Barrel
Can you imagine the
Wildflowers after your 4 days of rain
We thought
the Desert was wonderful with the Greens and Colours but it must be getting better now

To Phil P
My Vehicle 2.8 diesel Pajero 90 litres top section
130 litre
Kunawarritji to
Wiluna
Did not go into
Calvert Range
Weather conditions are a little unstable and it has rained after we went through
4.2 litre vehicles used 140 litres top section Bileluna to
Kunawarritji
approx 180 litres bottom section
Water is available at approx every 3rd to 4 th
well for washing.
Track was in good shape(corrigations everywhere) but it changes from different reports.
Suggest fitting New Shockers 2 weeks prior to going to make sure they dont leak-and taking old ones as spares.

Apparently, it was an electrical fault that caused the fire on the explorer.
It would not surprise me if it was Spinifex thou, the explorer has 2 Cat converters (One for each exhaust pipe right next to each other) they are basically right in the line of fire so to speak, when on a dry grassy overgrown track they sit a bit too low for comfort.
Still I wouldn’t even think about taking
mine on the canning for 1. What I just mentioned above and 2. The lack of a long-range
Tank.

The Exploder was burnt because the idiot driving it went where he should not have been.
First instant driving up disused track(s) , oh look little fire out side of truck. Torn fuel line.
Did this a couple of times but got too much for vehicle and poof up she goes.
Plastic bits got too hot and helped her along.
This is from the horses mouth.
I would not be on a trip with this guy.

From a fellow geocacher who completed the trip recently:
Twas a Defender not a disco apparently.
PASTE:
The defender had just passed us near the Debil hills turnoff when over the UHF
came a request for help. I won't go into details here but I relayed his
message to VKS and literally within 5 mins, his rescue was under way. He
wanted an air drop of a back axle! I have yet to ring him and find out how
long it took but will do so in the next week or 2 when life gets back to
normal!
Keep an eye on the VKS 737 newsletter I guess.
Dave
