I am looking to see if this has happened to anyone else, after a weekend out bush with some small water crossings I developed an oil leak, it looks as though it is coming from the front crankshaft seal as it is being flicked all around the engine bay. Though it could just be from thermal shock so took it for a drive around the streets and by the time I got back it was bleep out.

Has anyone had a similar problem? when I called the local 4wd mechanic for a quote he was suprised as he had not heard of it happening, especially with only 170k on the clock.

been under enough of them. transfer cases, rear diff pinion seals front axle seals yea but not much in the way off engine oil leaks. Still just coz it isnt common doesnt mean it cant happen

I don't thinks so, mainly from the sheer volume and colour of the oil, the steering still sounds fine as well
