Hi Brew69 and petrol freak, Aldi are a food chain and you can also find them and the inverter at -
www.aldi.com.au
There stuff is usually pretty good for the price.
Cheers

Better still, they do a lovely chunk of Cryvacced Virginian Ham for $9.99 a kilo. Comes in chunks of about a kilo. I've got a couple in the fridge for the trip starting Wednesday.
Also do a good cryvacced Leg of Lamb for $6.99 a kilo. Got one of those as
well for the
camp oven.

G'Day All,
I bought two of these when they were on sale last year, one is still in the cupboard waiting to be a present for someone.
They are square wave not sine, and for the money are very good. They will actually put out 300W, put a 300W floodlight on it to test it out. When I fitted drill, etc of higher rating it ran until the draw was too high and then cut out automatically.
Excellent unit for the price, just remember that in reality running anything more than 200W on it is a waste of time so very good for battery chargers, small lights etc. Some say they are fine for 'puters, others say must be sine wave, (I have a 12 volt unit to run the laptop)
I have the battery clips fitted to
mine so it draws direct from the battery, tried it with the cigarette lighter plug but didn't want to fry the wiring, the packet comes with a warning about this, will draw up to 35 amps from the circuit if drawing 300W.
Hope this helps
Rolande

The square wave
inverters are fine for laptops that use a power pack.
Aldi electronics are usually very good quality (their computers are excellent, all brand name bits inside).
The 512M SD memory cards for $49.95 are also excellent value.

Why not just get a 1000W inverter? They are about $200, then you can run what you like....

If you don't need 1000 Watts you shouldn't use it. A 1000 Watt inverter will draw a lot of idle current, approx 1.8amps, just to run the inverter. A 300Watt job draws about 0.6amps idle.
