Hi guys and gals ,
Just back from WA
Pilbara and I have some fuel use figures for those wanting to figure out their costs for their trip.
I did a total of 14,191 klm . On the sealed roads going over and back , I averaged 5.3 klm / litre or 18.9 litres / 100 klm at 110 kph on cruise control.
On dirt roads plus some bad tracks I averaged 5.8 klm / litre or 17.2 litres/ 100 klm.
On bad dirt tracks ( they were hard to find sometimes ) I averaged 5 klm/ litre or 20 litres / 100 klm.
The rig was a 2001 Landcruiser Turbo Diesel auto towing a Track Shak . I was carrying 280 litres of fuel , 120 litres of
water , enough food and grog for 3 weeks ,
so I was pulling a hefty load.
I only staked one tyre this year . Hooray !
Cheers ,
Willie

What weight do you think you had in the camper all up.

On our
Melbourne to
Kimberley trip our 2001 Landcruiser T/D auto did 8536 kilometres and used 1676 litres of fuel. This works out to be 5.09km per litre or 19.64Litres per 100km. Pretty similar to you but towing a Tvan and had 12 foot tinny on the roof of the cruiser. Also have 280 litres of fuel and 120 litres of
water (and outboard and three kids).
Pretty similar consumption really.

Hi Bob
You can go here for Tvan Hire
It goes very
well on the corrugations and is fantastic to tow. We had a few issues with it when it was new with dust getting in the kitchen and storage lockers but have fixed that now. Some dust came in the hatch at the front and I added some foam stuff and it now seals.
We took the Tvan up to
Kalumburu and
Mitchell Falls and
Cape Leveque and along the
Gibb River road without any problems.
