I know that this has nothing to do with vehicles but has anyone out there had anything to do with HiBIS broadband?

It is a government subsidy that applies to eligible users who live in rural areas.
Payable direct to the Service company and it guarantees you no price increase on your contract for the next 3 years and will guarantee a reduction in the contract if one applies due to competition issues.

Your service supplier will contact you if it applies as its money in there pocket.
Just sign up with who you want to use and they will sort it out.
Supposed to guarantee that rural users pay no more than a metropolitan user for broadband.

Thats how Telstra explained it to me when they phoned me about it

Does this answer your question?

Hiya I got a HiBIS subsidy for my satellite broadband connection. That meant free installation and subsidised rates for 18 months. I went to the HiBIS website and applied and then several companies contacted me offering their services, I chose the best one, of course, which installed all the bits and gt everything working and then promptly went out of business and was taken over by Clear Networks which is a great provider.

HiBIS is great and saved me heaps, I think I got like a $2100 rebate that went to the install/supplier company.

Gofor it

Hi Bonz,
What is the reception like? Is it susseptable to atmospheric conditions? Did you have to cough up for any installation costs?

Hi Bonz,
do you still need your landline as I was considering giving Telstra the big flick and just use my mobile for phone calls. I object to paying landline rental

Reception is fine, online all the time, as above installation was free, (the rebate covers that) and that was for a single story residence, double story costs more.

Its a good service a little slow at times but KILLS dialup for a little under 80 a month

depending how much of a scammer you are, you can also get it serving a business if you put the service under your own name. Depending on the service, there are different savings. On broadband (if your exchange can do it) it generally pays for your modem, on satellite it generally knocks off a percentage of the ongoing monthly cost.
