Have just bought a cheapie Oricom walkie talkie (twin pack) to use up Fraser. Read the instructions and set up channel on both radios - but do we think I can get it to work?..I must be dumb..I cannot get it to work :). Anyone have a basic instruction to get it working (batteries are new). Think I need an undergraduate degree to read the damn instruction booklet.
Many thanks.........cheers.

on channels 1 thru 8, make sure you dont have "dup" on (duplex) or they will not talk to each other in most areas.

Thanks guys, think I will take it back. Will just use good old fashion - run up the sand dunes and stop other traffic coming the other way, esp up Ngala Rocks area (if it is still a one way track).

Cheers.....

Con, what Truckster said was "get them to make them work" not give up. Take them back and get the supplier to prove and show you how they work. They are very useful for vehicle to vehicle wher you are fairly close together. We have a pair of cheapies from Supercheap and we give them to other cars who don't have permanent ones installed so that we can talk to them when we are travelling together. It might be difficult to know if cars are coming the other way anyway since there is no guarantee that they will be on the channel you are listening on or that they will just happen to talk at the right time.

Tim.

Mate, don't rely on other people listening on the CB when doing tracks on Fraser! Many don't have radios or don't use them, or are on different channels. Best method is to send the passenger up the track on foot with the walkie talkie to call you up when it's clear. (usually they need the exercise ;-))
Yes, Ngala rocks is a single lane track.
