G'day just back from three months in Queensland .
interested in the service offered by Aussie Assist but need to have motor/caravan or boat insurance with RACV to qualify.
understand if you have Aussie Assist then in case of say illness of yourself or your immediate family would result in Aussie Assist returnind you and your clobber to
home - if you are at least 100 k from
home.
my car insured with alliance and racv premimum is the same.
my caravan is insured with cil and racv premimum is the same
and i do have total care with racv but i do not have Aussie Assist.
have any of you people got Aussie Assist or racv insurance - are they any good.
would appreciate your comments as i am contemplaiting a change but have not spoken directly to any people whom have these products.
regards peter

We ordered that ANZ Roadside Service a few weeks ago. Cost $55 per year, for basically the same service as NRMA.
We are actually quite annoyed about it, and would warn people away from the product.
Upon calling, and paying via credit card, we were told the card is in the mail, just keep that with you, and you will be covered in any vehicle you are driving. Thats great, except that the card will take 3+ months to be delivered, and if you don't have the card, you don't have coverage......
We have called several times, and it would appear that the $55 is taken out straight away, but coverage does not start until the card is physically sent out. Load of crap in my book. So now we don't have NRMA any more, and don't have ANZ either, until they decide we should get the card.
If I get so much as a flat tyre, I will be contacting them and giving them what for, I tell you!

Aussie Assist comes with fully comprehensive vehicle insurance and is not related to the roadside
breakdown service. Aussie Assist is provided by a separate company to your car club.
I guess there are differences between becoming a car club member and just paying for run of the mill roadside assistance.

Peter
Several years ago i got stuck in
Renmark, not a bad place but when you live in
Perth and your going to
Melbourne for Holidays and its 3 days before christmas, it is not very nice. Because of the way things go with major breakdowns often it takes a couple of days to get a feel of what the total hassle is going to be. Any way we ended up paying for two nights accomodation and some ther costs.
We had Aussie assist through my health insurance, upon return we tried to claim as we felt it should be covered. Turns out it to claim we would have had to tell them at the start and that they would reimburse. In the end i gave up trying to claim. I suppose it comes down to that this service is often given away free so dont expect to much from it, i certainly would not let it take a important place in determining insurance companies. Also dont look at the premiums in your insurance look at what they give you in case of claim.

Hi Peter
We are insured through the CMCA's insurance for the GU and the Slideon. While travelling for three months SWMBO decided that she would have her appendix removed in
Alice Springs, one call and they offered to fly both of us
home to
Melbourne and bring the truck
home. When told that Sue could travel in 10 days they arranged for accomodation in a motel unit with kitchen facilities, which we paid on credit. The cheque arrived before the credit card was due, even a follow up phone call to make sure the
check had arrived and that Sue was fine.
Sadly this was the last trip for us in the GU and the Taj due to health problems and they are now in the trader section
