G'Day All,
Picked up my new SR (no flares) Hilux last Thursday and started messing around with the tyres. I tried the 90 series Prado rims with 235/85/16 and they stick out of the guards to far and the front brake calliper is extremely close to the rim, I could only get a "12 thou" (0.3mm) feeler gauge between rim and calliper.
So I have decide to get tyres to fit the 6" wide standard rims. I am looking at a 215/85/16 (31.4") Cooper ST, this would give a speedo change of 5%.
Has only one with a 05 V6 auto Hilux have larger than standard rolling diameter tyre and how does it effect performance as I love how it goes now and I don't want to change it to much?

Sorry,
I made a mistake with the tyre size, a 215/85/16 Cooper ST measures 30.48 inches

What size tyres are you running? and if they have a bigger diameter than standard how has it affected your wagon?

Hi Stoney
I am running 215/85/16 st on 6''prado rims on a
3ltr hilux with after market turbo,it does affect the power on hills a little, but more than makes up for it dropping cruising revs to 2600 at 100 kys, I have driven the new hilux ,I doubt that you would notice it with the new motor, will be interested to hear peoples comments on this as I am thinking of putting my rig in on a new one,it will also help with ground clearance, with a bit of
suspension mod it might get back to ground clearance of my model.

Friar,
Thanks for the reply, I have the V6 (175kw) I agree with you that the bigger tyres (approx 1.5" diameter larger) would not make much difference. I am also hoping that a lift kit and larger tyres will sort out the clearance.

the biggest tyre size they would fit is 225/75/16,haven't noticed any differece in driving.
would of liked wider rims but didn't want to have to put flares on.

I am starting to think that the 225/75/16 is the size tyre I will go for as it appears to be a common size and I don't really want to change the performace. Before I get tyres I am going to use my mates 31/10.5/15's to see how it affects the car

Stoney, let us know how the 31/10.5/15s go. I've got 265/70/15s on my SR5 at the moment. Next time I'm looking to go a bit bigger for some more clearance and thought the 31/10.5/15s might be about the biggest I could go.
10.5 will be a bit wide without flares on the SR I think. After market flares shouldn't be too expensive if you want the wider tyres.

Norm,
I agree, I think the 10.5" tyre will be to wide with out flares.
I am only trying the 31's just to se how it affects on road performance.
If there is not much of a difference in performance I can get the Cooper ST 215/85/16 as this is very similar rolling diameter to the 31's
