Hi all. Has anyone replaced the sub-tank on a 90 series with an LPG tank in a dual fuel conversion? Can it be done?
Anyone recommend a place in
Melbourne to talk to? And maybe a ballpark on how much such a conversion should cost?

When I was looking at Prado's it was HIGHLY recommended to stay
well clear of dual fuel Prado's.
Apparently they can have head issues just on fuel , and LPG makes them run a lot hotter , and cause more problems.
Just for info.

Good info flappa. Have to admit, this is my initial poke around the idea, not much research so far. Where was your info source?

Overlander did a writeup on "buying a used Prado" a while back (2 years or so probably).
Also info from the Prado group on Yahoo.
I also spoke to a mechanic who was fixing a V6 Pajero on Gas , who said he had the same problems with a Prado not long before.
To do with Alloy Heads on Steel block ?
I think the V6 4Runner has similar problems ?
I think all 3 , V6 Pajero (early ones), V6 Prado , and V6 4 runners are quite
well known for blowing head gaskets. Running on Gas compounds the problem.

Flappa, despite what I said before (ie. below in this thread) about getting worried, I've been speaking to the installers, toyota, much wider Internet searches, and can't find much more about common issues with LPG on the Prado. Have you got the Overlander report? I'm starting to swing the other way now, but do want to tie this one off.

Not the cheapest gas but parnell or lp1 do injected gas as in same as your efi injecters with a computer controllng it ....no loss of power on either fuel
When you convert to gas, you want to use it as much as possible for the benefit of saving $$, cheapest option would be gas tank inside, then new subtank with fuel pump and gas under the rear. Also consider the cost of heavier rear springs as part of the conversion...you will need them.
It may be possible to put a few scuba tanks along the back fl;oor and build a cover over it if you dont want to use the rear seats ever again...

LPG should produce the same or more power as petrol, with the appropriate adjustments in ignition timing.
After all LPG has effective octane rating of 100+.
My car produeces 3% more power on LPG than petrol, using 'old technology' LPG mixer. LPG injection (as a liquid) should improve that, should I want to spend the $$.
GAS RESEARCH in Hoppers Crossing know their stuff, and have a couple of 'interesting' LPG only hi pressure turbo +6 litre V8 cars in their
shop.
