a little help please gentleman
I am thinking of buying a holden rodeo
manual 3lt t/d 4x4 single cab chassie
02model 53.000k exl cond no air
in the hand book it says a towing compacity 1800k
the new 3Lt t/d claims 2000kg towing compacity
I would like to tow a 17ft van weighing 1300 kg loaded

Question 1 is the motor and gear train the same in the o2 as in the o5 model

Question 2 do you think the o2 would tow the van without to many problems

any help would be appreciated thank you for your time

Chris

Chris..as far as Im concerned that Rodeo is the best they ever built. The last of the `Real" Isuzus and not built in Indonesia!

The engine was the tried and tested 2.8TD just slighlty improved and pumped out to 3.0 with the intercooler, my absolute pick of the bunch. As far as Im aware they are not the same motor or drivetrain (electronic 4wd on RA)to the 05 (RA) model, indonesia can souce any parts they like for the RA Rodeo unlike Aust Rodeo being Isuzu.
In fairness I havent heard any major compaints with the new RA Rodeos, just sad that its not an Isuzu anymore.

I dont hink you will have any probs towing the caravan, but keep in mind... it wont break any speed records but should be able to do all the posted speed limits. This engine is compatable with the Dtronics etc allow significant improvements to engine management and power out put. So combine that with a decent exhaust and I think you will be happy.

Good luck with it
Matt.

Chris, the engines are great very reliable and last forever, but they are mechanical and with anything mechnical they break and wear as all do!

I have done 260000km on a 3.1L (jackaroo) motor and have been through a few things like power steering pumps and had to replace the aircon compressor but thats about it for the engine.

The fuek consuption with the 2.8 was average 10l/100km and the 3.1 slightly higher, so I would guess the electronic 3.0 to be close if not better than the 2.8.

Im sure you could do a search on carpoint or something similar and get the original review on the 02 Rodeo. It would have good and bad points and the fuel consuption etc.
Matt.
