I saw this nifti little adaptor in the trader that connects a hand held with a mobile or base antenna. Has anyone ever used one for their handheld?? I am interested in any feedback positive or not. Does this thing boost the power or just give it better reception???

I have BNC socket fitted instead of broken original antenna on one of my 2W Uniden handhelds.
The fix obviously does not boost of affect the output power but the range improved noticeably if external antenna connected.

Hi See You
We use that system of external antennas on handhelds in the marine rescue group I'm involved in. Works far superior to standard antennas. We use them on UHF CB & VHF Marine, the beauty being when we reach the job we simply revert to the small antenna. Also we mount the external antenna on a magnetic base so we can move it from vehicle to vehicle.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Brad

This system does improve range dramatically, but remember that you still need a decent radio to start with, a 1 or 2 watt unit will still only give you a few kilometres whereas a quality 5 watt unit will give you as good a range as a permanent mount unit.
