Hi folks,

Background:
Counting down the days before the year-something trip around oz... cant wait!
The old troopy has got comprehesive insurance with NRMA. When I called up today to add conents to the policy I found out that the only additions they would insure were ones physically attached to the vehicle. Which is less than useless because the things we wanted covered were the oztrail, chescold, max air, clothes, sat phone etc. I was told if we wanted them insured we would need to add them to a home contents policy, which is tough, because in two weeks I wont have a home.

The other thing that I was concerned about was off-road cover. The service centre lady was iffy and couldnt really give a definitive answer if I was covered or not for an off-road accident. She suggested I may wish to contact an insurance broker.

Question:
Does any one know of a good insurance broker in NSW that are 4wd friendly (ie will insure for contents, and cover off road accidents, and reasonably priced? It cost 750 to insure the troopy (thats for a 24 and 25 year old driver, in a rural area).

Thanks!

BTW, I've searched the archives and know this is a contentious issue. I've made contact with TCIS, DGA and Affinity but was hoping I could get feedback about these insurers or others, as well as any other tips re my specific situation. Cheers ;-)

I am with TCIS and have no reason for complaint, the agreed value I was looking for, at a very reasonable premium. All accessories covered, and covered anywhere in Aus, on or off marked tracks. Also costs the same as you have been paying for a heavily modified 4WD. As I have said before no affiliation with them at all, they help 4WDrivers, I help them out where possible. Moved to them as RACV would not cover more than 2 modifications.

I have had four vehicles covered by TCIS over the years, currently have two with them and a campertrailer. Never had a problem with the two claims I have made, one of which was off road (we couldn't name the track). They also provide insurance for camping gear as well for additional cost - there are a number of levels of coverage for this. Your camping gear is covered if your not at camp, so you can go for a drive and your gear back at camp is still covered. I thinks items over $500 have to be itemised on the policy.

Cheers

Michael has had the same experience as us.
Our broker is TCIS (Ph 1800 633 745) and the policies were worded by the 4WD Association so give appropriate cover.
Anyway, 2 claims over the past 5 years, one last month, and the service was great.
We now have again a GPS, Engel and 2 cameras to replace the originals stolen from our unattended vehicle. They could have been in a bush camp and still would have been covered. Other than as a customer I have no connnection with them.

Hi there

we have the dual cab insured with TCIS because the "standard" companies didn't handle modified vehciles, TCIS had no probs at all provided the vehicle is registered and roadworthy, their policy is comprehensive:

their 4wd cover includes:
agreed value for your 4wd and accessories
Australia wide cover with no geographical limits
Most modifications
Emergency repair authority
Excess free windscreen
Full Recovery costs
Repairer of your choice
After Accident Care
Restricted Driver Discounts

and now I've put in a quote for the camper trailer and camping equipment - the camping equipment cover includes theft including theft from open air, fire, store and associated risks and malicious and accidental damage, so far, I've been really impressed with their service and cost and certainly reccommend them.

check out their site www.tcis.com.au

cheers

Hmmm,
some interesting reading here. I have been with NRMA for 8 years, until 3 weeks ago. I decided to shop around after hearing what they are trying to do to the Panel Shops. Rang GIO which were a total rip off and finally settled with Allianz.

Having been on Max no claim bonus with nrma for 6 years paying 1200 a year for my GQ with :bolted to vehicle" options only. I found Allianz was same if not better cover for 400 a year less. Luckily i have not had to make a claim. so I am now saving myself 400 bucks a year just on 1 car. Thats a couple of nice trips for me.

I will sus out TCIS tomorrow though, sounds like they might be even better.
Thanks all for the info.
