We are looking for a UHF radio, and stumbled accross these GPS105's.

Are they any good, or more of a gimmick? For about $460, delivered, with the aerials, they don't seem too bad.

From what I can see, it would be a basic GPS unit, giving coordinates, average speed, etc.., but it would first and foremost be a UHF radio.

I tend to like my paper maps and compass, but this may be a good backup.

Cheers,

Chump

My son purchased one for his cruiser earlier this year and it seems fine. Has alarms for stop light cameras, overspeed warnings etc and seems a winner.

A bit less clutter around the car. I'm not to sure why Uniden don't market them more aggressively because we literally stumbled over it at a radio coms shop in Perth. Also received a hand held included in the price for same dollars.

No negatives from this seat.

You don't know if there is a way to update the data in them, do you?

I couldn't see anything in the manual....

chump_boy,

I'm looking at one of these as well. I downloaded the manual to get some idea of its features. Try page 19 Add/Delete Safety alert.

Not to sure about updating data but it has a few useful features, one being that it will find other uniden solid mounted or handheld units and provide a cross track bearing so the person on foot or another vehicle can locate each other.

Nifty

Gramps,

I saw that, but would rather use a PC or something to do a mass update. It would take ages working from a list off the internet or something.....

Yeah, I know. It does'nt seem to have any way of achieving a bulk update so that's a big drawback from my point of view.

G'Day Guys,

Updates for these units can only be performed at an "authorised Uniden service centre"

Hope this helps

I have one of the hand held units, good for what they are

Never been a fan of the 2/3 in one thingos eg stereao with dvd player and the list goes on. Main reason if 1 stops working or it no longer suits your needs (you may decide you want an upgraded radio/gps) it makes things hard

I have one and the radio side of things work well, the gps side of things are a bit basic I think, but does the job for what I need.
There does not appear to be any way to update the unit as it only has the gps arial and the antenae connections.
Like I said does all I need it to do.
