Why Would You Buy A Jeep?

Am interested in buying a new car - a diesel Jeep Cherokee was on the list. When seeking quotes, the leasing company came back that the Renegade version was no longer available which didn't sound right. Rang the local dealer to clarify - sorry Sir - there is no one available to take your call. OK - rang Jeep head office in Melbourne - Sorry sir you must deal with a dealer - well tried that - sorry sir but the one and only person who might be able to help is not available - what - there is no one else in Head Office who can tell me if the Renegade is being sold - no sir. Well why should I buy a Jeep if no one can tell me if they are being made - Jeep's Response - slam the phone down (I was to the point but not angry, abusive or beligerent).

I then contacted the lease company - cross Jeep off the list - why would you buy one if no one wants to help - Jeep are obviously not in the business of selling cars. If this is their attitude why would you buy one of their products.

Huh? I managed to get one. Glad I did. Been great so far.

What you are saying here doesn't make sense. Why would they not tell you what you wanted to know if you were a normal everyday phone call?

I've just taken delivery of a new Grand Cherokee and had a bit to do with Jeep's Melbourne head office before making the purchase. I had no issues at all with them - all my questions were answered fully and follow ups made by them as promised.

Local dealer has been good too. So far a pleasurable experience.

Oh, the 3.0 CRD drives really well too.

Cheers

Wow... Jeep owners coming out of the woodwork! Cool!

Kevin - you bugger! The V6 CRD..... mmmmmmmm..

I love my 2.7 Merc motor, so I can only imagine the fun you're having with the 3.0! I'd love that motor in my live axle WG.

Have a ball - they're fabulous engines!

Cheers :)

I purchased a brand new KJ 2.8 Diesel Cherokee in Jan 05. (straight off the ship as I ordered it in 04).

Couple of small glitches which JEEP fixed willingly and immediately.

Plenty of contact with Head Office in Melbourne who were more than helpful in authorising things to be done ASAP.

The two dealers I have dealt with, have been excellent also.

Vehicle is just ace as well.

You must of had a 'bad hair' day garrycol.

He actually ordered it in June 2003!!!! It took 'em that long to work WHY anybody would want the steering wheel on the right hand side.

Quote: " Couple of small glitches which JEEP fixed willingly and immediately."

Nothing major in the way of glitches....... just that it had no oil in it by the time he drove it home from the dealership after delivery.

Quote: "Plenty of contact with Head Office in Melbourne who were more than helpful in authorising things to be done ASAP."

Lucky is way too modest.......he has had such a close relationship with the Head Office people that he and Deidre are the Godparents for the CEO's latest grandchild. They regularly swap recipes for each other stills and Lucky is on the top of their "Most Valued Client" list.

LMAO.....

Spot on Roachie, he just happened to do the dealing with a guy I have known for years. I happened to notice the accent when Lucy quoted on EO the guy calling him "Maaate" I knew immediatly it was Reg. I have known him since 2C at high school. I guess I could be on the valued client list if I shopped there too ;-)

No, I don't have a Jeepney......

I've got a mate who runs a Jeep dealership. If you really want one let me know - he's in Melbourne Metro Area.

I had a V8 WG Jeep 03 which I really miss for lots of reasons. Serious grunt and it has a live axle front.

I wouldn't change your mind just yet - sounds like you got them on a bad day - and from my experience (and others) out of character for Jeep.

Now now.... Horses for courses. I'd MUCH rather drive around Australia in the Jeep, but would still rather TOUR around Australia in my Nissan - only because of the extra room. Apart from that they are build to be used in totally different roles. I love them both. I don't intend to lift the Jeep to be able to match the Patrol's clearance - because I wouldn't take a near-new car where I'd take the Patrol anyway.

I also love our neighbour's Landcruiser - because where it sits at the top of their driveway it keeps the dust off our vehicles. ;)

That 3.0 TD engine from Mercedes is one helluva motor - 160kW and torque a plenty ! Only thing is that it might cost a mint to service and the car may be worth bugger all in years to come. Resale is a big issue - some people have been burnt horribly at the pricey end of the market.

Banjo, I would love one of those motors in a car actually. 500+Nm of torque at those engine speeds would be mean, especially connected to a seven speed auto box. phhhhhfffeeeewwwwwwww and great economy too. Friend has an Audi 3 litre Quatro diesel with serious grunt

Glad to see some of you people have had a positive customer service experience - I didn't and it is my one and only experience with Jeep. What I liked about the Cherokee was its smaller size and diesel but otherwise not all that taken with them - will look elsewhere now.

$50,000 that Jeep will not be getting.
