I was wondering if anyone can confirm what a dealer told me today about the maximum towball weight permitted on a Terracan. Although they are rated to tow 2500kg he told me they can only have 120kg download on the towball, not much use I say. This is not mentioned anywhere on the brochure etc. so I was hoping someone with a Terracan can confirm this for me.
If this is true, and given that the rule of thumb is that a caravan or camper should have 10% of its total weight on the towball of the vehicle, the Terracan is really only good for about 1200kg.
I look forward to someone setting me straight.

You got told right with qualification - Terracan tow capacity is 700kg (unbraked trailer), 2500kg (braked trailer and limited to 5 vehicle occupants)

There was a write up in caravan world about three months ago and they said there was a special tow pack available that allowed a highre towball weight.
If you want further info write to me direct and I will find it and scan the story for you.

Hi there croozer, you will find this with most towbars. I have a heavy duty holden towbar (haymen reese) same thing is rated to tow 2100kg but ball weight is only 175kg. You woundn't want too much down force on the tow ball or the arse end of the car will be dragging, not only that your headlights will be pointing upwards. Regards Vitara

Hyundai have a Trek n Tow package that increases the towball weight to 150 kilo's, but they want $2000 for it, plus fitting. Cheaper to go to get an aftermarket one for about $850.00 or fit a set of Polyairs.

But it doesn't legally change the ball weight.
The only one that can do that are Hyundai , and they wont with aftermarket gear.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been away and off again tomorrow.
These are the facts with a dealer fitted Astrel tow bar (I've just checked
mine).
5 occupants 200 kg. 6-7 occupants 150 kg. That is with standard
suspension.
Cheers,
Jim.
