It really is hidious. The last two models came out with the clear tail lights, a big step forward over the previous models plain red lenses and here we are back to the old red lenses, only darker!!! yuk!! I havent actually seen many on the road, are they actually selling many?? Sadly i have to say the 100 series breadbox is starting to look ok!! Michael

I see the new facelifted 100 series has gone for the ugly red / orange / clear lense tail lights instead of the red / clear ones on my 04 model.

I don't mind them at all. A salesrep who comes to my work every fortnight has just traded up from a 2003 GU to a newie, and after having a close look, my only critisism would be the apparent increase in the size of the glove compartment which appears to take up space of the passengers legs, but I didn't sit in that seat so it was only a glance from the drivers side. I like the new dash, a bit of an improvement, but I certainly hope those new plastic wheel arch flares don't scratch as easily as the plain black ones on my 2000 GU. HHMMPPHHH.

It's a bit like the 100 series cruiser, when they first came out, I thought YUK !!! But they've grown on me now

Michael,
I must admit that when the GU4’s first came out, I too wasn’t impressed with the back. (Loved the front and the interior though.) A good friend of mine (4x4Treker), bought one and has already got his rear lights working and they look great. He did have to separate the outer lenses from the inner ones to do it.
On a resent trip to Darwin, I counted 12 Patrols to every LC, and most were 3.0L series 3’s and 4’s. I think many of them were hire vehicles because they were driven by tourists and were not well equipped.
I would be very interested to see the sales figures on the series 4 GU’s, because there are many on the road in the N.T.

Agree they are hideous

- but have you seen the new Disco? Without a problem, that takes the award for ugliest and 100% no styling at all! almost like they forgot they needed a box on the back, so just tacked what ever they had left over on ...

What man, with a "non-limp" wrist, wants a "pretty" rig? When you throw a bull bar on them, the front views are pretty much the same..The rear..Who cares..If other drivers don't like it,hardly an issue..We had the Patrol for 7yrs and pulled tons of gear on tandem trailer op to 120kph,on private roads of course.Oh yeah, and N.T. ;-) Magic rigs..Never put a spanner on it!MPG:7!

Not half as bad as that 'Action Utility Vehicle' (styling excercise gone wrong) offering from a certain manufacturer, now thats a hideous, ugly, out of proportion vehicle!

....awaiting hate mail....LOL

.....then that would be an admission of above...LOL

i agree with you man but i think you missed the point, the lights have nothing to do with the way these things look. THey have an old model trying to trick it up with the new slabby pathfinder D3 styling. It does not work, this is why they are ugly. The pathy and D3 at least are consistent in their style. The patrol is all over the place. What a heap of crap. In fact i have been disspopinted with it since it first came out at the motor show, they made it look like a freaking 80 series, all panzy. They should have gotten the GQ and beefed it up and modernised it, it looked tough as, instead they tried to go all rounded with everyone else. The brand new style (except the hilux which is now a girls car) 4x4's now are finally starting to look tough again!

So what you are saying, if Nissan released an oversized Lada Niva and called it a Patrol, you would line up and buy one????

Aaaah Michael. The astounding Lada Niva, what an absolute gem. As I said "if it did the job". Doing the job includes a certain level of creature comforts and reliability. I definitely would'nt pay anywhere near Patrol dollars for it though, even if it did have clear tail lights LOL.
